The December fixture schedule was already looking packed for both clubs, with Burnley facing seven Premier League games.
Spurs are even busier, needing to fit in matches against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup and Rennes in the Europa Conference League on top of their league responsibilities.
A rearranged game before the turn of the year is nigh on impossible, given the fixture list, and there are more variables beyond that.
The earliest the game is likely to be played is gameweek 21, after Spurs' New Year's Day trip to Watford and Burnley's match away to Manchester United the following day.
However, if Spurs win their Carabao Cup quarter-final, they will have the first leg of their semi-final that week and the second leg a week later.
There could end up being a gap in the schedule in early February, if Spurs progress in the Carabao Cup but both they and Burnley lose their FA Cup third round matches in early January.
If Spurs progress in Europe, which they would do with a victory over Rennes on December 9, then they will be in line for more extra matches in the new year.
The London side cannot top their group, so would face a preliminary knockout game in February for a chance to reach the last 16.
Burnley are not in Europe and have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup, so the only consideration involving Sean Dyche's men is their FA Cup progress.
Spurs have confirmed in a statement that a new date for the match will be determined "in due course".
The postponement of the game means Spurs will need to wait for an opportunity to close the gap between themselves and the top four, while Burnley have been denied a chance to climb out of the bottom three.

Idiotic from Carrick, trying to stamp his mark before he's ousted.
