We were 8 points ahead of everybody in 22/23 up to the final 6 weeks of the season, and that was helped by making 3 signings in Jan....

I agree we should have addressed our attacking options, but when you say 'signed proper cover', we did that, for example, with our defence, signing Calafiore. Yet, despite that, we lost White for months, Tomiyasu nearly all season, Saliba a few games, Gabriel a few games, Zinchenko and Tierney for months, not to mention Calafiore for a significant number of games, as well as losing our new midfielder, again signed for cover, with 1 training session under his belt. That is bad luck.

Go back to 1999, and watch Bergkamp's penalty. It goes in, the Treble is gone. It didn't, but even then it took Bayern to collapse when literally a few minutes from victory. As for Liverpool's plastic treble in 2001, when Henchoz is allowed to play volleyball in the area, then you can't overcome that sort of karma.

I do wholeheartedly agree though, that we should have done better with attacking cover. Luck still plays a part though.
Good old Arsenal, we're proud to say that name

You can equally ask the question

Myles has been working with the first team for the last 18 months

Arteta felt the easiest path to the first team was the LB role

So did we really need to spend €50m on Cala ?

As good as he is , it feels that money could have been used to sign a forward player

Timber / White / Nichols
Saliba / Tomiyasu / Kacurri
Gabriel / Kiwior / Heaven
Myles / Zinchenko / Tierney

Cala really wasn't a priority imo - which I recall Ornstein saying was a concern raised by Edu and co

Arteta insisted however and prioritised him over a forward signing

Everton significantly the better team and only Liverpool's first shot in the second half. Liverpool have no right to be leading this match. That is what having a top striker does for you, it allows you to win games you'd otherwise draw or lose.

It's infuriating but if there's a player in the league right now who deserves another PL winners medal it's Salah.

Oh wow, it's given.

A lifeline for us we don't deserve? Not that we'll be able to take advantage of it without a forward line :rofll:

Michael Oliver proved tonight that he isn't fit to referee a schoolboy's game....He made a horrendous mistake on the free for the first Everton goal. He let Diaz away with blatantly charging at Everton players with only intent to injure on his mind.He let McAllister away with persistent fouling...
Liverpool had a test of character tonight and didn't exactly pass it. They were ruffled by a limited one dimensional Everton team and lost their cool..Van Dijk is the most annoying footballer, he sarcastically smiles and spends his time trying to referee the game.
Jones reacted to the Everton player celebrating in front of the Liverpool supporters, but remember it was "passion" when.Klopp ran onto the pitch after a late derby winner.
Foul on Konate for second goal? Maybe or was it a case of "man up" like Gabriel was told at Newcastle last season ?
Delighted for Everton, they were the first club that really knocked Liverpool off their perch in the 80s , denied a chance of a European Cup by Liverpool fans, and then taunted about that for years by Liverpool fans .

Just watching the Brighton v scum match and Mitoma scores the goal of the season….just a fabulous first touch followed by two more perfect touches and a curling shot past the keeper. Stunning!
