Fans running onto the pitch

Postby swipe right » Sun May 22, 2022 10:52 pm

What in the world is going on? In the span of a week we’ve had two attacks on players and managers. Where are the stewards? Fans should not be allowed on the pitch at any point while players and managers are on it.

It's out of order.

Stronger punishments need to be brought in to deter it. It's not even in good humour in many cases. Abuse and assault of opposition players etc.

Has to stop.

Atmosphere at grounds appears to be the best it's been since the early 90s. Probaly due to fans realising what they were missing during covid.

Why stop that?

There are not enough stewards at most grounds to cope with a concerted pitch invasion. They can try to prevent it but when you have many thousands of people storming the pitch it's completely out of their control.

Fully agree... until some knuckle dragger abuses/assaults a player and ruins it for the rest of us.

People like Coldplay and voted for Nazis... you can't trust people.

Exactly. We saw what happened with Vieira. That could have turned nasty.

There was one useful pitch invasion. The one at the end of Escape to Victory, when Sylvester Stallone, Bobby Moore and Pele got away.

Est makes a very good point here.

What do you get at nazi rallies and, even worse, at C*ldplay gigs? That's right, thousands of people standing on football pitches when they really shouldn't be there

It would have, for the fan. Vieira is the one manager you do not try to pick a fight with. If he was able to beat up Roy Keane, he can easily beat up a skinny jobless scouser.

You often hear of pitch invaders being banned who were not even supporters of either of the teams that were playing, it's shocking that some morons decide to invade the pitch but what can you do, in my opinion the majority have probably been on the beer pre match and the others are kids thinking they are clever.

What can you do? Well, I'd suggest you make it very clear that unless its an emergency situation, any spectator would be banned from every football ground in the whole league. With face recognition cctv, this could be easily applied.....if rather tricky to implement. It should certainly put people off.

As for assaulting players, like that mug who did a running headbutt into the (Forest?) player He was rightly imprisoned for a stretch.
