From the outside looking in, it appears to me that Vlahovic ideally prefers a move to Juventus but they can't afford him, whilst we're ready to meet Fiorentina's €80M valuation and transfer the money yesterday.

If City get 55m from Barca for Torres it makes perfect sense for them to sign Vlahovic - and that's what his agent is waiting for.

Ok. I wasn't aware of this Barca - City influence on proceedings, only of Juve being his preferred destination of choice.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City target Dusan Vlahovic could price himself out of a January move because the 21-year-old Fiorentina striker wants £200,000 a week. (Star)

I'd go Ivan Toney. He'd do a good job till summer. Then we could get a top notcher and Toney would be a good plan B.

I am still holding out hope that we'll got for a 6 month loan for a really top striker...
Whilst not being in the CL is a blocker - it's not if the deal is for 6 months with an option to buy... If we finish in the top 4 we can convince that player to stay.. if we don't then that player can always move on.

Toney won't go cheap and I'm not sure he's what we need. I'd prefer more of a technical striker / CF.

We also need someone who can hit the ground running though - so a PL player for 6 months isn't a bad shout.

Honestly I'd take Callum Wilson ahead of Toney on a short-term deal. Both unrealistic though. Not many clubs that are going to loan top strikers in Jan.

Jovic seems the only realistic loan option to me - but again how long is he going to take to settle (if he does) ?

I think the Jovic loan in jan is the most obvious and most likely immediate option.

Toney ain't it, he looked good against us and is a ''decent'' striker but he's not the level we need imo. Go for Schick or someone in the summer.

It's difficult to make a reasoned argument against your assessment Santa, and no, that is not a challenge or open invitation for someone to do so in the name of bloody mindedness.

However, the logic it is founded on has to contend with genuine concerns from seeing the construction of a worthwhile team again threatening to flounder on a single detail...the lack of a striker to turn buckets of promise and potential into trophy hauls. Top that off with a dollop of 'we almost signed x, y and z' and those concerns are understandably one step away from being iron clad.

I see zero benefit in bringing Jovic in for a loan spell. With Odegaard it was different because we were desperate for a creative player.

But Jovic has been allergic to scoring goals at Real and even during his loan back to Eintracht Frankfurt he's only bagged 4 in 19 appearances. If Laca gets injured, I'd rather give those minutes to Nketiah or even try Pepe at CF. Hell, I'd even put Aubameyang back in before going for Jovic.

If this pubber and his agent feel they're above us then we should walk away.

Agents* , he's managed by a consortium of stakeholders not excluding criminals and mafiosas. There is a worrying combination of interests behind this kid's success. He is a generational talent but I worry about the baggage.

So in short, agreed.
