Aye, Kola should be a last resort option at LB or LCB imo. Tough guy but trash player defensively, decent going forward.

If we go back three then by the end of the season it could be:

Gabriel-Mari-Saliba
Raya/Ramsdale
White/Tomiyasu--Saliba/Timber--Gabriel/Kiwior--???/Zinchenko
???/Jorginho
Odegaard/Smith Rowe----Rice/???
Saka/Jesus-------------------Martinelli/Trossard

Okay, here's the dream window—based on a lot of wishful thinking and offloading a lot of players:

Transfers In

Houssem Aouar (£55m)
Thomas Partey (£45m)
Odsonne Edouard (£30m)
Gabriel Magalhães (£27m)
Pablo Mari (£7m)
Cedric Soares (free)
Willian (free)
Dani Ceballos (loan)

Total spend: £174m

Transfers Out

Hector Bellerin (£30m)
Alexandre Lacazette (£30m)
Lucas Torreira (£25m)
Matteo Guendouzi (£20m)
Sead Kolasinac (£8m)
Mohamed Elneny (£5m)
Shkodran Mustafi (£5m)
Sokratis (£4.5m)
Sam Greenwood (£1.5m)
Mesut Ozil (free)
Henrik Mkhytaryan (free)
Rob Holding (loan)

Total sold: £129m

Net spend: £45m

---

Martinez
Leno

Maitland-Niles - Saliba - Gabriel - Tierney
Chambers - Luiz - Mari - Cedric

Ceballos - Partey - Aouar
Willock/ ESR - Xhaka - Saka

Pepe - Edouard - Aubameyang
Willian - Nketiah - Martinelli

---

Based on some hopeful presumptions—such as Guendouzi going for some good money, Mustafi being sold whilst injured and Ozil agreeing to leave somewhere—but it's possible, even if hugely optimistic. I'm hoping we can persuade Martinez to stay if he is given a new deal and starts the season as our number one, and in an ideal situation someone like Juventus or Atletico come in with some decent cash for Lacazette. That's the only way I see that deal happening.

I also envisage that we're more likely to keep hold of Mustafi for depth purposes if Sokratis and Holding are heading out, and that we're more likely to keep Elneny for season and only go for one of Aouar or Partey rather than both. Still, a man can dream.

That midfield made me weep a tear of joy Cal

I would say though for the first year of Saliba’s arrival I probs wouldn’t start him. David Luiz would also help with Gabriel communication wise - which is imperative for a defensive unit

Yeah, my formation was certainly more of an end of season vibe. We won't be ditching the 3-5-2 for a while yet and Luiz is a guaranteed starter then. I hope by 2021 we've transitioned to a 4-3-3/ 4-2-3-1 and Saliba and Gabriel have established a partnership.

mustafi, chambers and elneny wont go though. Then again I think Aouar will be cheaper than that, rumour was 54m euros and doubt we pay it all up front.

Aye, it's optimistic, but both should be back in full training by the end of the month/ early October so it's possible clubs come in for them late in the window as both are presumably available.

Elneny staying seems likely but if we opted to sell him I feel like we may get some suitors. Best scenario would still be a club bidding for Guendouzi but that ship seems to have sailed.

My understanding is that Partey is pretty good at bringing the ball forward so having him as the holding midfielder wouldn't really be the best use of him. I also think Xhaka would benefit from having someone with more physicality and mobility next to him.
