I'm not going to make out like I've gone through a detailed analysis or dossier on this fella, other than to say that from the beginning of last season when most of the attention and plaudits Norwich were getting had Pukki as the focal point, Buendia was the single most player who caught my interest.
When Norwich went down I genuinely thought someone like Chelsea, Spurs or Leeds were going to go in with a job lot offer of £45-50M for Arrons, Buendia, Cantwell and the England u21 defender who went to Leicester whose name slips my mind right now.
In the dispatches decreeing our need to recruit a CAM and Aouar, Slobezlai, Grealish and Buendia were being bandied about, I felt we would need two from the four with one of them definitely being the Argentine.
Reason being not so much to do with insuring adequate cover or even progressive competition to ensure we don't suffer the dibilitating loss of a CAM and orchestrator of our attacking prowess again, but that we could develop the team to an even greater degree by deploying him deeper and alongside Partey in the double pivot.
Maybe I am but I honestly don't think I'm being driven by sentiment here, but the guy often puts me in mind of Santi Cazorla. He can carry the ball and use both feet with quickness and quality through the full spectrum of passes whilst not shirking the midfield graft or a strong tackle. No he's not 6'2" with the presence of Frankenstein's monster, but in essence think of all the things that Xhaka is incapable of doing consistently from that same position and that is what I am convinced Buendia would bring to the table and give scope for an Ozil, Smith-Rowe, Aouar type to wreak havoc further forward and flanked by the likes of Saka and Pepe.
