Time will tell, reckon he’s cost too much for us anyway, we wouldn’t pay for Guimaraes.

I think the issue with Guimares is Lyon wanted most / all of the money up front. They would not accept payment instalments.

I suspect Villa may be more willing to structure the deal so we pay the fee over several years / reduce the Emi fee assuming we did similar.

Just a guess.

I'm praying Mourinho knows something we don't and that a Xhaka exit is still possible, however unlikely.

I can't see why else we would be moving for a CM in Jan. We have all our mids available other than Elneny, who will return in a couple of games' time.

Rightio.

Had a look and it seems Juve don’t want to sell Bentacaur so that makes Luiz less likely I would think.

Juve in talks for Zakaria. Bentacur likely to join Villa if the deal goes through.

Time to bring Luiz home ?

Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz, 23, could leave Aston Villa this summer as boss Steven Gerrard has placed a holding midfielder at the top of his list for next season. (Mail)

Arsenal have been linked with Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luis for some time, and Football Insider claims that a move will be made by the Gunners in the next transfer window.

The Gunners have made the signing of another striker their top priority for the summer, but a Brazilian midfielder on the books of a Premier League rival is also in their sights.

I could well be as off target here as one of Thomas Partey's long range shots at goal, but in struggling to recollect a consistent volume of performances from Douglas Luiz to warrant any favourable comparisons to the likes of Fabinho or Rodri as opposed to the odd good showing here and there a la Fred, there's just a whiff of whether ego would be the main driving factor behind pursuing his recruitment.

Both he and Pablo Mari were at City during our managers tenure under Pep, and even if emanating from his subconsciousness in knowing that damn good players exist within but need extracting like diamonds and rotten teeth, there could be an element of reinforcing his own credentials and earning the greater respect and accolades in the best way possible by taking players manager Numero Uno deemed not quite good enough, and proving the master wrong (cue the music from Disney's 'Fantasia').

In his book, the player that Sir Alex referenced as the most talented he ever coached, isn't Cantona, Beckham or Cristiano Ronaldo, but Ravel Morrison.

Another mediocre backup-level player signing.

Scored from a corner against us. Wouldn't be bad cover!
