Mykola Matvienko

Nationality: Ukrainian
Date of birth: May 2, 1996
Preferred position(s): CB
Parent club: Shakhtar Donetsk

The agent of Ukraine defender Mykola Matvienko says Arsenal are in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over signing him.

Agent Yuriy Danchenko told Ukrainian media: "Recently, my colleagues and I have been constantly in contact with representatives of the Arsenal, and have had meetings. The Gunners have already contacted Shakhtar, and we hope that these negotiations will succeed."

Matvienko, who has 22 caps for Ukraine, has 18 months left on his contract.

Arsenal said to be interested in Matvienko as a younger alternative to PSG’s Kurzawa. The Arsenal hierarchy are hesitant to sign another player recommended by former manager Unai Emery following the disappointing performance of previous signings Dennis Suarez, Stefan Lichsteiner and Dani Ceballos.

I play the handheld version. It never really changes much. I get a bit frustated with it because it lacks the detail of the full version like tactics for individual players

According to a report from Ukrainian outfit, Komanda, Arsenal and Shakhtar Donetsk have agreed a fee for defender Mykola Matviyenko.
The 23 year old was first linked last week, but it seemed as if the Gunners sights had turned towards Spaniard Pablo Mari. The Flamengo centre-half travelled to London with Technical Director Edu at the weekend, but despite undergoing a medical, returned to Brazil without signing for the club.
Discrepancies over the fee and the structure of the deal were cited, and it was hardly a positive sign that he went back to Rio less than two days after his arrival.
Matviyenko was reportedly a target for Man City, hence Mikel Arteta’s awareness of him, but if Arsenal are struggling to find a fee acceptable for Pablo Mari – a deal believed to be worth around €9m – it remains to be seen what they can work out with Shaktar.
Defensive reinforcements are already a must, but that issue was given greater significance following an injury last night to Shkodran Mustafi who was stretchered off in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the FA Cup.
Arteta insisted it wouldn’t impact the club’s plans before the end of the transfer window on Friday evening, but if Mustafi’s injury is long-term it would leave him with just three centre-halves, making the need for recruitment even more pressing.
Let’s see what Raul and Co come up with before 11pm on Friday. As for the latest update on Matviyenko, we can’t speak to the credibility of the source, but time till tell.

Arsenal will have to pay £30m if they are to buy Ukrainian defender Mykola Matviyenko from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The player's agent says the clubs are in talks about a deal for the 23-year-old, who has 18 months left on his contract.

'Martinelli may lead to more Brazilians at Arsenal'

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has faced Matviyenko twice this season in the Champions League when he was assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Arsenal want a centre-back this month and have been linked with Bournemouth's Nathan Ake and Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.
Arsenal would prefer a loan deal over a permanent move.

Why ? Is it because of his age?
