Arsenal have apparently shifted their attention to a player wanted by Ajax as Martinez’s replacement – Mykola Matvienko.
Two years older than Martinez at 26, Matvienko is apparently available at a fraction of Martinez’s price – €15m.
A left-footed centreback, Matvienko has two years left on his current Shakhtar Donestk contract having come through their youth ranks.
He has 51 caps for Ukraine since making his debut for his country in March, 2017.
