That's the thing. You can experiment with rookie managers but if it doesn't work out, you could simply sack them.
Problem with Arsenal is we don't hire the obvious ones and when the appointment fails, we continue to persist with them.
A few weeks ago, Arteta commented that if anybody had told him we'd still be in contention for Europe after that run until December, he wouldn't have believed that person. But who was the manager during that run? The way he sneakily blames everyone but himself has to be lauded. The man has mastered that art. And, Gooners simply lap it up.
When Mourinho does that, well, he has the history to back it up. Before he was sacked by Spurs, a journalist asked if why defending a lead is such a problem for him these days when that was what he was famed for. His response? "Same manager, different players."
Is it the objective truth? No, it isn't. Does he have an argument? Absolutely. This is the same man who's won two trebles. He can simply zip people's mouth by pointing at the trophies he's won.
Arteta has no history whatsoever. The man wasn't even a head coach when he arrived. But the way he speaks, it's like he joined Arsenal after winning the league with City as their manager.
I was for Arteta's appointment because I was intrigued by that mystery element. It could have meant something positively wild, or we could have fallen flat. We did. So, what's stopping Arsenal folks from sacking him?
So many clubs are chopping and changing managers this summer. It's insane. Yet, Arteta sits there in his comfy chair with an ironclad job security.
Antonio f'kin Conte is available but we have no plans to sack Arteta. He's won 6 trophies in the past 7 seasons he's managed at club level. The one season he didn't win, he was in the EL final. With Italy, the man took them to the QFs of the Euros with that abysmal squad—losing out to world champions, Germany.
How can such a big club like Arsenal repeatedly and continuously make the wrong decisions? It's become a hallmark of this club now.
We've been in a perennial state of transition since 2016. I mean... Any club... Jesus Christ, a multi-billion club being in a state of transition for nearly 5 years like this is some third world country stuck in war, cornered by giant nations... How can anyone make sense of this?
Amidst all this, the manager we have comes out and insinuates that Ozil was why we sucked during the first half of the season...
This is surreal. I can't even fathom half of this.
