Philippe Coutinho

Arsenal chiefs are set to meet with Barcelona officials to thrash out a loan deal for ex-Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.

The Gunners take on Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Nou Camp on Sunday, and discussions will take place around the game.

Coutinho joined Barcelona for £142million back in 2018 but has fallen down the pecking order in Spain and is facing an uncertain future.

Barcelona are open to the idea of letting the Brazilian go on loan for the season, and Arsenal have emerged as a surprise contender for his temporary signature, according to Spanish publication Sport.

The Gunners' head of football Raul Sanllehi is set to lead the talks to land Coutinho.

According to Twitter there's also reports from Spain that there's genuine interest and this isn't a bullshit rumor.

No way, I don't believe it.

Especially not when it comes from a red top

Dont do it.

He'll be on crazy wages plus a large loan fee and is proven to be inconsistent

Yeah but top 4 is almost guaranteed if they got him. Kind of pays for himself.

Holy shit! Catradio is tier 1 for Barca.

We're showing the middle finger to our defense, aren't we?

Torreira - Ceballos
Pepe - Coutinho - Auba
Lacazette

Tbf that doesn't say we're linked to him right? Just that Barca are willing to offload him?

Never particularly rated Coutinho as a creater, but he has great close control and poses a substantial goal threat with his trademark inside-of-the-foot shots from in and around the edge of the 18-yard box.

If he's able to quickly rebuild his confidence and if we can manage to find a way to accommodate him without adding to our defensively suspect midfield he'd be a good addition.

Two big ifs, but if those "ifs" are met, teams would have a great deal of trouble prioritising which players to mark the tightest. Double marking on Pépé would inevitably open up gaps for Auba, Laca and Pépé to exploit and vice versa.

I think the rumours are bullshit but i think he could be our LW, whilst moving Laca behind Auba in a sort of hybrid formation thats not quite 424 and not quite 4231 etc

I wonder if that's a smoke screen for Umtiti who we've been linked with a loan deal for.

Was thinking at the beginning of the window that a Ozil/Coutinho swap deal would be good.

As things stand though, we don't need Coutinho, and it would be a waste of a squad place when we need CBs.
