Arsenal will look to make a move for Lyon and France midfielder Houssem Aouar, 23, if they fail to sign Odegaard or Leicester City's 24-year-old England midfielder James Maddison. (Sun on Sunday)

I find it odd we went all out for this guy last summer and now he’s cut price we’re not interested.

It’s like we’re only interested if they cost big money.

Ben White was signed with full knowledge that he works best in a 3ATB setup, and was exposed in our 2CB formation.

Aouar would be the same, we wouldn't play to his strengths. Odegaard knows the system and can coexist with ESR. Its not a bad decision.

5 managers haven’t fancied Odegaard at Real, no one else was interested in him except Arteta.

There’s alarm bells ringing everywhere when the only manager that rated him is a guy who can’t spot talent.

Based on last season I can see why, he didn’t do much, other than the West Ham game what did he do for
us?

We shouldn’t just be thinking about Arteta, he won’t be here in a few months, then these players he’s bought are someone else’s problem.

Odegaard can adjust to a new manager, I'm not worried about that. What is worrying is the level to which he'll be Arteta-fied before we bring in somebody new.

The point you made about Real managers rejecting him is fair, but Aouar isn't really in demand either. We'd have a free run at him if we wanted, and that too is a red flag.

Now that we have finally secured the services of Martin Odegaard, we should now look to follow closely on its heels by getting the deal done for Houssem Aouar pdq.

A lack of foresight and forward planning is the last thing we need to demonstrate right now by failing to ensure that every effort has been made to avoid the team once again impersonating some driftwood on the open sea during a storm if not a typhoon.

We have already started the season without our current best midfielder, does anyone really want to tempt fate that we won't evoke the sensation of déjà vu via one if not both of our current creative influences getting injured or suffering illness or loss of form? Because of course, playing well and being in good form before getting crocked on international duty is an alien concept to Arsenal FC.

But looking beyond that, isn't one of the standard factors used to accredit a good team, the strength of its bench and the ability to readily modify the starting XI on occasion in correlation to certain opposition?

He was last summer though, also he hasn’t had 5 managers that haven’t liked the look of him. We’ve seen what he can do as well and it was nothing special thus far.

Aouar available for 20 million Euros apparently, now that’s a bargain!

Quite the drop in value for a player who still has 2 years left on his contract.
From 50m to 20m.
Perhaps the scouts know something you don't.

I think over the last 2 seasons he has 10 goals and 6 assists - and been injury prone.. and that is in the French league.
In the last 40 league games he has completed 90 minutes just 8 times.

Yes, either way it shows they don’t know what they’re doing.

........... but why though? why has his value plummeted?

As to why AFC aren't going for him when we went for him last time, maybe him turning us down is the reason?

From reports we were in serious negotiations and then last minute the statement released was that he and the club decided to turn down the offer and he was going to stay on.

Maybe that's why Arteta isn't happy with him?

More to do with Covid and it’s impact on French teams.
