Arsenal 'monitoring' Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico as Unai Emery seeks long-term left-back solution

Arsenal’s injury problems meant veteran right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner deputised at left-back in Monday’s 3-1 win over Leicester City.

The Swiss international, who arrived from Juventus on a free transfer in the summer, started against the Foxes despite being fourth choice for the role.

But with Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac both injured and Ainsley Maitland-Niles - nominally a midfielder - still working his way back from a broken leg, Lichtsteiner played out of position at The Emirates.

The Gunners continued their recent excellent run, making it 10 wins on the spin with the Mesut Oil-inspired success.

But questions remain over the left-back position for the long term.

Monreal has been first choice but turns 33 in February, while Sead Kolasinac has largely flattered to deceive since his arrival from Schalke and has suffered with injury problems.

Unai Emery is monitoring Alberto Moreno’s situation at Liverpool, amid a potential move for a player with whom he won the Europa League at Sevilla.

And according to Calciomercato, Arsenal chiefs are also monitoring Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

The Argentine international, 26, joined the Amsterdam club in January from Independiente in a £3.5million move and has impressed since.

Tagliafico, who has 10 caps for his country, has a contract until 2022 at the Johan Cruyff Arena and played all 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over Benfica on Tuesday night.

Cool.

Are you also able to 'don up' the likes of Dinamo Kiev, Benfica and Bayern Munich in the UCL?

Only seen him at the World Cup

Wouldn't want him based on that but then wouldn't want any Argentinian based on national team

Heard hes done well at Ajax though

Plays for Ajax that's all we need to know they're always producing top players although this guy is 26 so he's not exactly young but he's at the perfect age to move into the big leagues.

The only players I want from Ajax are De Ligt and De Jong.

Actually I wouldn’t even mind Ziyech or Dolberg.

I thought we'd go back in for him, cheap option as always.

Would much rather have Tierney.
