Could you imagine Cripps' response to this?

Hard no, he was never that good to begin with.

Too old. These are the types of players that would have made a difference for us in 2015, but not now. Way past their best and looking for a last payday before MLS.

hes 30. I think he still has a few good years in him if we can get him at a decent price we need experience and someone to marshal the defense. whatever we do I just hope we act quick whoever needs to leave the club get them out asap try to create a bidding war for mesut maybe we can ship him out to china instead of auba.

Yeah, if we had a complete team and were looking for an experienced backup.

But we're not that team, so hard pass.

His age is a liability in the PL, where plenty of good foreign CBs have caught by surprise by the pace of the opposition and are too set in their ways to adjust. Boateng is 2nd/3rd choice at a club which has been steamrolling the opposition for years . He won't make it in a team that can realistically be beaten by 9-10 others in the league.

^^ Dortmund players are less complacent since they don't dominate the league and tend to move to other clubs/leagues more frequently. I don't know of a single Bayern player that's had to force a move away; they'd all retire there if they could.

Metro:

The Gunners have stepped up their efforts to recruit a new centre-back in the January transfer window as Callum Chambers faces up to nine months out after he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during the defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

Red Bull Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano remains on Arsenal’s radar after the Gunners failed with a £55 million bid for the 21-year-old in the summer transfer window.

But according to Sky Sports Germany, Arsenal are also exploring a cheaper alternative in Boateng.

Sky Germany:
Arsenal have entered discussions with Bayern Munich for defender Jerome Boateng after holding initial talks about a potential move this month, with the player keen to leave & Bayern holding out for around €15m for 31-year-old Boateng.
