Freiburg sporting director Jochen Saier has responded to claims that defender Caglar Soyuncu could join Arsenal as 'total nonsense.'

The chairman of Soyuncu's former club Altinordu claimed on Thursday that Arsenal had agreed a move for the 22-year-old centre-back, having contacted the Turkish side for information about the defender.

However, Freiburg have dismissed the stories, dismissing them as a complete fabrication.

So many raised eyebrows in his name.

Could be a warning.

Altinordu president Seyit Mehmet Ozkan recently confirmed that his former pupil is set to join Arsenal today.

Ozkan revealed that he has arranged a report for Arsenal which will be handed to the club and that Soyuncu turned down Bayern Munich.

“Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal,” he said at International Football Economic Forum held at The Grand Tarabya Hotel in Istanbul.

“Of course we would make a cut from the transfer if he joins Arsenal.

“Arsenal asked us for data on his time at the club, we have put something together for them which will be handed over.

“Bayern Munich also wanted him but he’s on the way to the Premier League.”

Arsenal are pressing on with negotiations to sign Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu despite no official news of who will replace Arsene Wenger for next season, the Telegraph claims.

The report suggests the Gunners have completed their interview process for a new manager but none of the candidates were asked their opinion on 21-year-old Soyuncu.

A number of Premier League sides were said to be interested in the young Turkey international, but Arsenal are in pole position despite their managerial situation, with head of recruitment Sven Mislintat having taken charge of summer transfers.

Would be funny if the new manager didn't want him.

Time for this Sven dude to piss off

See as I said, even if the manager's not appointed we have to get used to the fact that it won't hold up transfers.

Sven is now in charge of that, tbh I think its a breath of fresh air, he's already brought in Auba and Mkhi so I've yet to have reason to complain.

I just find it hard to believe. The idea that a manager really has little or no say over which transfers happen

For example, does that work for outgoing transfers as well?

What if the manager doesn't want a player but Mr Sven pays £40M for him? It doesn't make sense in real life

Remember Rogers and the famous Liverpool transfer committee that bought Baloteli and foisted him on Rogers?
