Partey and Doucoure would steamroller midfields though. It'd be Gilberto/Vieira like, no short arsed playmaker in the invincibles!

You do know it’s not 2004 and neither are anywhere near as good as them two were, right?

Invincibles had sick wingers and Bergy who was essentially the playmaker though. Lacazette is good in the build up but he's about as close to Bergkamps level as Dominic Calvert-Lewin is to Thierry Henry.

Most teams have a creative CAM/WF these days, only really the scouse who don't.

And the latter is cause the full-backs are creative behemoths with Trent basically being a right winger for 90% of the game

Bayern won the CL with Thiago as their deepest midfielder lol

It's a completely different game, post invincibles the game has become way more tactical, as pointed out we would need great wingers and full backs if we partnered doucoure and partey

ManU reached the UCL Final with Carrick and Scholes in 2011.

Even we reached the UCL SFs with a midfield of Fabregas - Song - Denilson.

If we had Vieira today, and prime Ozil and Cesc, we'd be playing with Vieira as a B2B midfielder, Cesc as the DLP/CM, and Ozil as a CAM. And we'd be close to winning the UCL than we ever were when Vieira and Gilberto played together.

The era of destroyers in the middle is long gone.

Vieira and Cesc would never have worked, thats why Vieira was sold

herbert chapman played a formation with 5 forwards, it bears no relevance to todays game

ever watched rinus michels' dutch team where they press the ball like headless chickens? couldnt do the same today

same as football 14 years ago, what would/wouldnt work then is irrelevant to the concept football in 2020

cesc & vieira's in city's midfield with david silva the last time they won the prem would still be as efficient as the fernandinho, kdb & david silva trio

Yeah but he wanted partey and aouar as our CM pairing in a 4-2-3-1!

Ceballos - partey - Aouar as a midfield 3 would work 100%

Ceballos puts in a huge defensive shift, it’s the most underrated part of his game
