Vieira wasn't a DM. He's as good a B2B CM as there has been in Prem history.

And Gilberto is the best Premier League DM of all time.

Sounds too good to be true - especially with so little time remaining. Pace, strength, power, anticipation - he has it all. Absolutely loves defending and doesn't get intimidated by anyone.

Unlike Bonucci, Chiellini & co he has never had the luxury of being part of a well-drilled defensive back three/five. For the majority of the time he would be partnered up with rather erratic, error prone defenders like Fazio, Castan and Juan Jesus.

None of that has stopped him from standing out, which on its own is impressive and a testament to his ability.

If we get Manolas or even Luiz, this is the best transfer window since..... can't even think of a better one in recent times

Hmm think it's too late for Manolas.

Luiz is definitely an option though.

Interesting post and well written too but I gotta ask: how do you know so much about all that fancy dan foreign football? For me, the Italian league - and I don't watch it btw - is probably on the same level as League One (another league I don't watch). The real test is the Premier League. For us, for where we are, we've gotta think about who can adapt in the middle of a season. A season that is quickly turning into a shitshow, pardon my French.

We all know Johnny Evans is proven at the highest level - but Manolas? He could be good, or could be bad. Impossible to tell.

For that reason, I say:
EVANS IN.

Champs League qualifiacation from Europa is a must. Hopefully Sven can carry on this attitude of transfer domination for the rest of the season and get defensive signings, DM and GK sorted early over the summer so we can crack on with a proper pre-season.

Still will be questions asked if we dont sign a defender, even though weve signed a top player in Aubameyang.

Why dont we go after Manolas earlier in January? We already know our cbs were shit and its not like we lose them on injuries.
