Would we really spend €30m on a player who's already turned 30?

Manchester United and Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Napoli's contract talks with Dries Mertens, reports Calciomercato.

The Serie A side are eager to tie their Belgian forward to fresh terms beyond 2020, but face competition from the Premier League.

Mertens has a €28 million release clause available to teams outside of Italy, which has United and Arsenal keen.

Cant see him wanting to leave Napoli for us

Napoli could be forced to sell 28-year-old Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who has been linked with Manchester United, and 32-year-old Belgium forward Dries Mertens, who is thought to be a target for Arsenal, for cut-price fees after a poor start to the season. (Ilmattino - in Italian)

You know its coming.

He could well be our Davor Suker, to Martinelli being our Thierry Henry though.

Let's hope we don't buy a 33yr old looking for a pay day to end his career.
We have enough of those.

Phenomenal player when he's in the mood, but not sure he'd be able to adapt to the physicality Premier League at this stage in his career. He's not quite as quick of the mark as he used to be a few years ago and has had his share of injuries. Having said that, as an all round technician, even at 33/34, he'd be one of the very best in the country.
