No, we need someone to do the Gilberto Silva job in midfield. Not another playmaker type!
Xhaka and Carvalho are both very slow. Their strength alone wouldn't help against very pacy attacks
Vieira and Gilberto weren't exactly Linford Christie and Kriss Akabusi but they did ok! Xhaka needs someone next to him to act as a third CB when we don't have the ball in order to work in a 4-2-3-1. I think he and WC would work well. WC looked more mobile than people give him credit for whenever I have seen him play.
I agree we need a DM who would play more like a third CB, but I don't think it should be Carvalho. I think Nainggolan would be the dream partner for Xhaka. He's very strong defensively and offensively. Krychowiak and Strootman are more realistic and could also partner Xhaka. Both are still a level above Carvalho imo.
Naingolan is another forward thinking CM who needs a DM beside him. He's a similar player to Xhaka, combative but not defence minded.
The other two would be good though.
