Xhaka
Wilshere - Verratti
Mahrez - Lacazette - Mbappe

:hiding:

If we're keeping Xhaka in the team we need a DM behind him:

DM
Jack/Rambo--Xhaka

Wouldn't work. The midfield would be flat as heck.

If you want a DM or a dynamic CM in there, we'd be much better off with:

Xhaka
Rajda/Vidal - Wilshere

Xhaka has to play as the deepest CM. That's where he's most effective.

He's not a gilberto silva though. Nowhere near good enough defensively to do the dirty work with jack/rambo or other lightweight attack minded CMs in front of him.

Xhaka should be in the Vieira, box to box role, next to a Gilberto DM type.

Xhaka hasn't got the physical capabilities to play as a box to box role

Put two box to box players next to him and let him sit deep is the best we're gonna function

@ PG

That's why we play a 4-3-3 because it favors majority of our players, including Xhaka.

Xhaka isn't a B2B. He's a DLP. He can't play that role. You'd get the best out of him if he partnered an all-action dynamic CM like Vidal alongside a flair player.

Xhaka will stay back, hence, he won't be exposed as much. Vidal or someone like Nainggolan would play as the B2B with their energies - running up and down - and the flair player would accelerate our attack. When we're defending, we switch to a flat 4-3-3.

In terms of on the ball you want xhaka to be the one deepest picking the ball off defenders that's his game, when pressing or deep in opposition half, you don't really want him as the deepest midfielder, you at least want someone by his side until he at least proves he can read the game better.

hence why a midfield three of him, naby keita and tolisso for example would be a very effective and relatively cheapish midfield 3. one of them can help out whenever needed and both can drive forward the ball and pick out someone in the final third

ideally if ur playing a 433 with them you want someone like ozil on the right wing to help provide service into the box too

i really hope we start to build on a midfield 3 and make the right additions to play alongside xhaka as i dont hold much faith on santi as a starter anymore and it's the way forward

With that attitude you could give up on nearly the whole team this season, next to a playmaker he proved to be a decent player for a decent period of time and when he had confidence even his football ability was ok.

Obviously we should aim for the best which he isn't but I don't see the need to put him down when its clear the team need a different manager.

a top side shouldnt have someone as limited technically as coquelin as a starter. hes okay as a squad player or when the going gets tough but he should be nowhere near the teamsheet, i think it goes to show how good santi is when you consider he made coquelin look like a good defensive mid for so long, and how bad he's looked ever since santi got injured. its like koscielny making every centre half looked decent next to him for the past 5 years

a system that looks like:

Xhaka
B2B (D) - B2B (A)
Özil - Alexis/Proper Striker - Alexis/True Winger

should be how we're approaching games, it's whats working in the current era of football

^ More like Cazorla - Xhaka - Wilshere

I'm really excited in seeing how Wenger handles the summer after sales of Alexis and Ozil.

I am happy for ozil to have a another chance under a different manager like everyone else but I really don't think he fits on the wing, winning the pl is all about having pace, movement and good dribbling from your wide players, ozil doesn't fit that. Also his stamina is questionable and you can't get away with not working hard out wide.

Chelsea have Pedro, william, hazard as their wide players and even Moses who provides loads of wing support, guys that run at people and force the opposition into mistakes.

Bar Sanchez we are shit in this area.

Fekir, lacazette, mahrez, mbappe suit us far better as wide players. Marking them guys as a full back would terrify me, with ozil I would just get up his ass, kick him a bit and know I will win the battle and force him to track me instead.

OZIL needs to be a 10 supplying a quality front 3 with his passing or he is not really of any use to.

Talking about Per, we've missed him this season.

Yep. Said it in the West Brom thread, as it turned out, I'd rather him than Mustafi - who is a train wreck.
