took part in three games in the world cup (injured after that)
Has a 7.33 who scored rating last year with Valencia. He was one of the few actually performing for Valencia.

He played. Also it doesn't matter, he made it to last 23, or even less if you consider the positions of players, for a World Cup winner. That's not a small accomplishment.

The source for this link is someone close to the player's club.

Tbh whenever a deal is close to happening, it usually gets leaked through the press and it'll be not long before most reliable papers/sources start reporting it. In Belgium when it comes to football transfers people don't seem to hold the essence of discretion in a high regard. So far nothing of that sort has happened regarding Engels, but if it does it won't be long before the more reliable English newspapers start picking it up as well.

Mostly reported first in foreign newspapers though. Belgian journalism is of the worst kind on this planet.

Nah, once Sporza or De Morgen report it, it's usually on point.

If you're referring to HLN and Het Nieuwsblad these papers are nothing compared to The Sun, Daily Star or Daily Mail when it comes to sensationalism and lack of credibility.

There isn't even a genuine tabloid newspaper in Belgium whereas England, Germany, Spain, etc have several.

Sporza reported Pogba being done 2 weeks ago. De morgen is pretty decent yeah but their sports section isn't that big. Hahah yeah HLN is a rich man's "tv familie" of "story" imo

iirc, sporza only reported what other media outlets were saying, and never confirmed anything themselves. They rarely do. When they report on a transfer being finalized, it's a done deal. Also means you won't hear anything new from them, as others will have reported the interest by then. De Morgen is similar.

HLN is nowhere near that reliable, but they do report transfers/interest before most, and most of those aren't just made up like some British tabloids do.

so no "experienced" CB coming in? if it's the choice between Engels and someone more proven like Mustafi, i'd go for Mustafi

How is Mustafi proven?

Over 130 games in Seria A and La Liga is way better than some mug in the belgium league.

Mustafi:
Won U17 World Cup with Germany
Was on 2014 World Cup team and came on as substitute
Was on 2016 Euro team and played both as a starter and a substitute
Experience in Italian League - 50 games in Sampdoria
Experience in La Liga - 61 games in Valencia

Engels:
No notable International appearance
56 games over 4 years in some club in Belgium

Mustafi clearly is more experienced than Engels.

Valencia club record is not really relevant. If you are bringing that up, you are confusing "team performance" with "Individual experience".

Why do club loan out their players to weak teams? For them to gain Experience.

Mustafi was actually one of the few bright spots on that Valencia team.

Exactly , he's just a moderate CB imo. Some call-ups and sub apps for the national team doesn't make him proven. Never even mind apps for Sampdoria and Valencia ffs LOL. He was awful for germany at the euros. Experienced and decent is what you can call him at best. I never said Engels is a better player btw

Arsenal target Bjorn Engels, 22, has opened the door to a summer move to the Premier League from Club Brugge, after the North London club failed to sign the centre-back last summer. (Express)

He's an Arsenal fan and has indicated he wants to leave, preferably to the premier league. If we want him he's ours really. Still quite good, still struggling with injuries.
