Over 100 million for an 18 y/o wonder kid, who apparently has only had 1 good season. Didn't we sell Henry for under 20 mil? When will it end! :dizzy:

Real Madrid closing in on £161m world record deal for Monaco’s Kylian Mbappé

Real Madrid believe they are close to smashing the transfer world record for the 18-year-old France striker Kylian Mbappé, after reportedly reaching the basis of an agreement with Monaco that would result in him heading to the Santiago Bernabéu for a total fee of €180m (£161m). Monaco, though, have denied they have agreed to the deal.

The Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Madrid and Monaco had agreed, in principle, a deal worth €160m, plus a further €20m in objectives. Although Monaco denied that to the French newspaper Nice-Matin, sources at the Spanish club insist they are optimistic that a definitive deal is close. Mbappé would join on a six-year deal worth around €7m a year.

Madrid have raised more than €100m in sales this summer, with Álvaro Morata joining Chelsea and Danilo signing for Manchester City, while James Rodríguez has gone to Bayern Munich on loan. If the deal is finalised, it would mean that Monaco, who reached last season’s Champions League semi-final and won the French title, have made more than £300m in transfers. Among the 13 players who have already departed are Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy, who joined City for £43.6m and £52m respectively, and Tiemoué Bakayoko, who cost Chelsea £39.7m.

Zinedine Zidane admitted he was a striker short after Morata’s departure, only to insist the next day that he was not requesting any signings. He did add, however: “Anything can happen between now and 31 August.”

It is not so much Morata’s exit that made Mbappé a target; indeed, Morata’s determination to depart was based, in part, on the belief that not only did he have Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema ahead of him but that a move for the Monaco striker would follow. Florentino Pérez, the Madrid president, has made little secret of his liking for the Frenchman.

Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Arsenal had all expressed an interest in the player, whose father has been handling negotiations. Although Mbappé’s preference was Real Madrid, the club he supports, there were doubts about the opportunities he would be given at the Bernabéu, despite assurances that he will play. He had been told there would be departures that would facilitate his involvement as they sought to convince him.

Guardian on it now.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Manchester:

Man City lodge interest in Kylian Mbappe but expect to lose out to Real Madrid if he leaves Monaco this summer

Lel at City. It's not the fact that they're interested in Mbappe. That's smart. But the amount they're willing to spend this season. They've already spent £200m and aren't done yet. Insane.

With this investment, anything short of a Prem and CL double would be sort of underachieving.

Would this work?

- No more than 3 incoming senior players (21 and above) to be bought in a single window. 3 players from 18-21. Unlimited players aged 15-17 into the academy, or squad.
- A transfer fee cap of £150m per window.
- Wages proportionate to transfer fees. A player must earn an annual minimum wage amounting to 20% of the transfer fee.

Ask yourself the question though ........... why should you really care?

Is £50m so much better? it wasn't long ago when you could get a WC player for £35m.

So who cares if its all gone nuts, its not our money.

Tbh if Mbappe becomes the next Ronaldo (Brazilian) then he'll be worth the price of 3 players.

.......... to think some actually thought we could out bid Real Madrid, lol.

This!

We have soldiers dying on the front for so little, nurses and doctors performing their work for so little, yet someone like Bellerin gets paid 100k a week to holiday
