Just like how Silvestre, Phil Neville, and Welbeck were also winners.

Evans is shit, but if you played at United under Ferguson you are going to have won trophies.

Lol you can't tar them all with the same brush because they played for Man Utd before, its not some kinda of hoodoo shit.

I'm not.

I'm responding to your claim of Evans being a "winner".

Just because he won trophies doesn't mean he isn't shit.

What so winning trophies means you're not a winner....of trophies?

Pleb.

Phil Neville won the treble.

You're trying to say because Evans is a "winner" it means he's a good player.

So who's the pleb in this equation?

I seem to remember that some people on here were lubing up at the thought of Ryan Shawcross signing for us. That would have been awful beyond any words I have.

Evans I can live with

Wouldn't mind him at all, would add to our depth, regarding inflated fees ffs the board have enough dough and all i care for is the player and not the money in the bank, at least within reasonable realms. We need depth in central defence and he wouldn't be a bad option to have around at the back.

Quality > quantity

We have Koscielny, Chambers, Holding, Mertesacker, Mustafi and even Monreal if need be.

We don't need 6 central defenders, we need quality.

Chambers is crap.

Mert is.... yeah

We need a new CB either now or in the summer. Might as well be now

That's precisely my point.

We shouldn't be buying shit to replace shit, we need a quality CB - Evans is not that.

Nobody is saying Evans is quality but he isn't sh*t in my opinion. He is decent, has loads of PL experience and by CB standards has at least 2-3 years left in him at the PL level. Chambers has failed to ignite that confidence and Merts is done. Holding still needs a season of loan in my opinion to truly hone him as i rate him but he needs to be playing week in week out. I totally agree we need quality but we also need numbers because we aren't as stacked up at CB as it seems to appear.

West Brom and Arsenal have both conceded 31 goals in the league so far. How is Evans an upgrade on what we have?

31 goals conceded in 25 games is quite rare for a team that sits second last in the table.

In fact, it's a good defensive record - better than any club placed between 9th and 20th.

I do agree he's not an upgrade on our first choice centre backs and £20m is steep for a player of his ability and age.

He won't matter.

The problem is not just our defenders.

It's our defensive shape, coaching and philosophy.

The kind of defensive mistakes we make and how frequently we make them, our defenders would have to be the biggest morons to make them that frequently if they were coached and instructed properly. The only seriously low IQ defender on a consistent basis that we have is Bellerin.

We have shit defensive coach and training program. We need to fix that first.

And on top of all that, we desperately need a big, strong DM to protect the back line. None of our midfielders do their defensive jobs properly as far as I'm concerned.
