Gerard Pique

Heard any rumours? This is the place to discuss potential transfer targets.

How many of you would leave first team football at one of the worlds best team, in a country with beautiful weather and women?

If it was the case of not getting games like Sanchez, Toure and Fabregas etc then you'd consider a move to the BPL.

I disagree - while finding it laughable - with the notion that someone, any player, would have to prove himself in the PL to be worthwhile.

Who said that was the case? Mars said to 'test himself' not to prove he isn't a piece of trash.

Dunno why some are so anti-prem these days anyway.

Pretty much the pl is a different type of test to what he has experienced, at barca and Spain they have always kept the ball so well and the tempo is a lot slower its more about concentration rather than physiclaity. Mastering that type of football and achieving what he has is still incredible and he will go down as a legendary player.

It would just be interesting to see if he could come to a pl team, where he would have to be physical, dig deep when he is blwoing out his ass and see if he can be a real mans defender like a Adams, Terry or Vidic.

I think he would have no problem doing it.

Spanish teams have won the CL in '11, '14, '15, and '16 this decade.

EL: '10, '12, '14, '15, '16.

Atleti, Sevilla, Barca, and Real.

Their record in the KO stages of all European competitions is impeccable.

His age has f all to do with it as he never had pace. No one wants pointless sideways passing. Unfortunately for him he doesn't have a World Cup final tap in to live off the back of as Iniesta does as he too has been utter garbage for years

Both must be thanking their lucky stars Messi singlehandedly took them to so many trophies. Players like Xavi and Iniesta are squad fillers. Take it from someone whos seen both play millions of times for club and country (they have Villa and Casillas to thank at that level) and not just believe media hype

Must apply to Raul, Casillas, Ramos, et al too.

Xavi, Iniesta, and Alonso form the spine of the most dominant footballing nation since Brazil's dominance (1994 - 2002), and to a lesser extent Argentina from 1986 - 1993. Pointless sideways passing is a very simplistic way of viewing what Xavi did for Barca and Spain. He was the heartbeat of those sides - something called dictating the play from deep.

Regardless, this isn't about Xavi or any individual player. The mentality that someone has to prove himself in the PL is bemusing. There was a time when a PL club made it to the final of the CL every year (starting 2005 until 2012, with the exception of 2010). Even then, the cream years from the Prem in the CL was 2005 - 2009. This argument would be semi-valid then - not today.

Look at the Barca players who were awesome playing for them but have done f all since leaving. Xavi, Bojan, Valdes amongst others seen as world class under the protection of Barca and Spanish FA. All are now considered shite.

Its why Busquets, Iniesta or Messi will never leave Barca cos they'll be found out and they want to have that legendary status amongst football fans who don't know much. Others however like myself know better.

Pique in the same boat. Did f all at Mancs and became Barca first choice CB cos he only has to defend perhaps 2 games a season if that

Wonder if same criteria applies for Ramos. He never left his comfort zone.
