Arsenal are eyeing a move for Greece international defender Kostas Manolas. The Olympiakos defender would cost the Gunners £8m but they will move for the 23-year-old if Thomas Vermaelen leaves the Emirates this summer.

I like this player alot. I remember watching the Costa Rica v Greece match and telling my friend this is a player I want at arsenal. very talented center back. Btw is it true that half of the male population in greece is called Kostas?

Never heard of him but he's 6'1 and at 23 he's experienced but young enough to still develop.

I wouldn't be too disappointed as third or fourth choice CB.

I'd happily take him as Vermaelen's replacement providing the latter doesn't go to United.

The latter will be sold and arsenal always let players have their choice when they leave. No way would Wenger veto a move for any player once they decide to leave

Arsenal move for Manolas

Arsenal are readying a bid for Greece and Olympiakos defender Kostas Manolas as they prepare for the loss of club captain Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgian is expected to head to Old Trafford and Manolas will cost the Gunners €10 million.

http://metro.co.uk/2014/08/11/is-arsene-wenger-about-to-sign-olympiacos-kostas-manolas-for-arsenal-4828359/

'The source of the rumour is TMW in Italy which is a promising start. A website that is relatively reliable with transfer rumours, TMW are often fed many of their stories directly from agents, clubs and players.

The player is said to be a target for both Juventus and Napoli but Arsenal might just have the edge should they pursue the player given the relationship they established with Olympiacos after allowing Joel Campbell to play for the Greek side on loan last season.'

I hope we sign him, looks like a decent player to me. £8 Million would be a fine price for a player who played very well at the WC.

Manolas' clearances per game (6.0) was higher than Italian centre-back Giorgio Chiellini (4.7).
Manolas' pass completion percentage (87.5) is comparable to German centre-back Mats Hummels (87.2).
Manolas averaged more headers won per game (3.3) than English centre-back Gary Cahill (3.0).
Manolas' tackle completion percentage (75, per Squawka.com) was more proficient than Brazilian centre-back David Luiz (46, per Squawka.com).

£8M would be a bargin.

He's only 23 played over a dozen times for his country, Scored goals at CL level. and is 6ft1.

We need another defender, he's cheap, the stats say he's pretty decent, and he's young. We'll see if Wenger rates him.
