He's really good, certainly for a 19 year old. I watch Bilbao regularly, and he's always solid at the back. Would love him as a Vermaelen replacement.

Yes to any young French CB as France seems to be mass producing quality CBs these days. Varane, Mangala, Laporte, Zouma, Umiti

Arsenal to splash out £34million on Aymeric Laporte

The French youngster enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Spanish outfit last season, and was linked with a move to the Emirates over the summer.

Despite interest from Manchester United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, the 20-year-old chose to extend his current deal until 2018, which also included a release clause of £34million.

However, Arsene Wenger is now ready to launch a fresh bid for Laporte's services, with the Gunners looking light on options at the back.

Captain Thomas Vermaelen was allowed to depart for Barcelona over the summer, and with Calum Chambers filling in for the injured Mathieu Debuchy at right-back, Wenger is hoping that Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny can make it to January without picking up any injuries.

I heard he had a £29m release clause, surely not £34m?

The only proven winner in red and white at this club? Arsene Wenger. Sack the board.
