Arsenal set to strengthen title bid with move for Griezmann

Arsenal are targeting a move for Real Sociedad wideman Antoine Griezmann in a bid to strengthen their bid to win the Premier League title.

The Gunners, who are 9/4 with Ladbrokes to win the league, are currently five points clear at the top of the table and Arsene Wenger has been told he can splash the cash in January as he looks to guide the Emirates Stadium outfit to their first league crown in 10 years.

And Frenchman Griezmann, who has been watched by the north London clubs’ scouts on numerous occasions, is top of Wenger’s wish list in the winter transfer window.

While a striker still remains a priority for Gunners, the French boss is also keen to add another out-and-out winger to his squad and Griezmann fits the bill.

Sociedad have so far resisted any advances for the 22-year-old but after a disappointing campaign in the Champions League, La Real may be forced to cash in on one of their prized assets.

“We want to keep him for as long as possible,” a club source told Spanish newspaper Marca.

“But we have a battle to convince him to stay – we know clubs are interested in him.”

The north Londoners, who reached the last 16 of the Champions league despite losing 2-0 to Napoli, are poised to make a move for the forward and a bid in the region of £20m could see Griezmann, who has a release clause, running out at the Emirates

The France under-21 international, who has fired nine goals in La Liga for the White and Blues, has previously claimed to favour a move abroad and teaming up with French compatriots, Olivier Giroud, Bacary Sagna, Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Flamini, not to mention Wenger, could appeal.

And with the Gunners 20/1 to win the Champions League for the first time in their history Griezmann’s possible arrival could boost their dual assault on domestic and European honours.

Don't need him unless we sell Podolski btw.

Yeah a winger isn't our main priority. I've been impressed with him this season in the CL though looks like a talent.

Another winger is not needed to be fair. And if we were in for a winger, Griezmann wouldn't be my first choice. Just buy a striker.

I like the look of him, but I spent £21m on him on FM13 and he was a bit shit so he'd have to do a fair bit to earn my trust again. Bastard.

I'd love Griezmann, but we'll probably need closer to £25m to land him. If we could get him and someone like Berbatov as a short-term striking option it'd be a great window.

Maybe if we agreed to remove the buy back option in Vela's contract it would be considerably less.

Good player Griezmann I like him, although I don't think we need him. He plays right wing mostly and I would much prefer a proper left footed, left winger who can cross.

Too limited, we already have enough players for the left wing position. No thanks.

I'm hearing that his buy out clause is 25m (30 euro). Considering that they are 1 pt off of a champions league place, I'm not sure how realistic this transfer is.

Any idea if he has the capability to play central? He certainly seems to have the eye for a goal.
