Ornstein: "Xhaka has told senior officials at Arsenal that he would like to leave the club. If rumours are to be believed he's already agreed personal terms with Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga.
We will have to wait to see if a transfer fee can be agreed with Arsenal who I understand whilst open to selling the former captain, would prefer to do so in the summer. Talks are set to continue and Arsenal are likely to want to recoup much of the £35m they paid Borussia Monchengladbach for Xhaka in 2016.
If the Bundesliga side are unable to find the sort of money Arsenal are hoping for, it remains a possibility that a player is offered as part of a deal. Arsenal are said to hold an interest in centre back Niklas Stark and I also understand whilst seemingly unlikely, the club has enquired about the availability of Solomon Kalou. Arsenal fans will be all too familiar with the former Chelsea attacker who came close to joining on several occasions, however I'm not convinced that Kalou would be the type of signing the club is expected to make.
However, with the general feeling around the club that one of the strikers Alex Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be sold in January (to avoid an all too familiar situation with players entering the final year of a contract), Arsenal could be looking to bring in a replacement striker.
With the development of Martinelli and the continued hope regarding youth strikers Eddie Nketiah and more recently Tyreece John-Jules, Arsenal may indeed prefer to bring in an experienced attacker - ideally on a short term basis, similar to the deal we saw for David Luiz."
Chapman: "It's also worth remembering that Kalou brings you versatility - he can play on either flank or through the middle - and he's got experience playing in the league. It may not be as silly as it first sounds. "
