I think free agents are still allowed to be signed?
Marchisio is quality but he has Wilshere like injury problems the last 2 years, would rather stay away

Premier League teams can no longer sign free agents outside of the transfer window.

Football League teams, however, can still sign free agents or bring in loanees until August 31st.

Wrong.

Clubs are free to sign unattached players at any point in the season as long as they register the player in their 25-man Premier League squad.

Nope, this isn't 2017.

You need to catch up with the recently changed transfer window regulations.

Can English clubs sign players on loan after 5pm?

For Premier League clubs once last Thursday's deadline passed, they cannot loan in anyone until the window reopens in the New Year.

They can loan out players to Championship clubs though such as Kristian Bielik has now joined Charlton until the end of the season.

In previous years, the window has remained open after deadline to allow loans.

However, the FA, under pressure from FIFA, have scrapped that extension.

Football League clubs have the same deadline for transfers but are allowed until the end of the month to complete any loan deals.

What about free agents?

Again, it's a no for Premier League clubs.

They won't be able to sign out-of-contract players until January.

Football League clubs have until the end of August to sign up free agents.

In years gone by, clubs were able to sign free agents at any point, but clubs under orders to submit their 25-man squads, this is no longer permitted.

The window for European clubs remains unchanged, allowing English clubs to sell players abroad up until the usual deadline on 31st August.
