Gibbs AND Shaw at LB rotation? Too young and inexperienced IMO.

Would you rather spend £20-25m on a 28 years old Baines than on a quality winger/cam?

Let's not forget he's English + contract until 2015 + key player of Everton + wanted by clubs like Utd = easily £20m

I would go for Enrique, costs half the price of Baines and is very close to him in terms of quality and consistency imo.

28 is an age in which a player is close to his prime, I don't see it as a downside whatsoever.. he's easily the best LB in the league, a great crosser of the ball which we need and I don't see a problem with Gibbs covering for him the same way Jenks is covering for "older" Sagna.

Plus, if it means he won't go to a rival like Manure, all the better.

I just don't understand how he hasn't been snapped up already... Baines is pure class and one of the most consistent performers for years.

Quality costs money on most occasions. you may get lucky with the likes of Michu who imo is best bargain buy of 2012 but more often than not not you need dish out the dough if you want quality. Baines will cost 20 plus million quid cos he is good, he is versatile, consistent and a dead-ball specialist. You can get lucky with an obscure gem here n there but proven quality costs money.

If memory serves me right we had the chance to have Enrique for about 6m when we instead went for Santos

For a 17 year old he's not bad at all. Having him in our squad still learning and all is much better than Santos but then so would having my nan in the squad! Shaw's current contracts up until 2014.

Was pretty impressed bu him, then again we didn't put our best performance yesterday so it's not like he had a handful to deal with..

Has anyone seen him against the other big clubs this season?

Would be strange to go for another young'n with Gibbs being so young himself. With him getting regular gametime already it wouldn't make sense unless he was loaned straight back, and to even spend next season on loan at a prem club.

Still, he looks very decent. Physical as well, a left-sided Jenks is a decent comparison from what I've seen so far.

That Luke Shaw was a short mixed-race fella... I used to buy him too!!! Along with Park, Babel and Kallstroom, he was always free for some reason, perfect buy after surviving the first season with the shit team you start with.

This Luke Shaw would've been 11 years old when PES 06 came out

I wouldn't be surprised to see Shaw giving Gibbs the jitters in the second half of next season if we did sign him. He comfortably kept AOC in his pocket in the first half. He is a very good prospect for the future yet does not look like he is too far away from being a first team regular if given the game time.

people forget that Gibbs is nearly 24 now, granted he's hardly an OAP and hopefully he will keep improving for a few years yet but he cant be treated as a youngster coming up through the ranks any more.

I agree. He is out first choice left-back now and needs to really up his game.

He didn't do too badly against Everton last night. A summer move for him may be when Santos pisses off back to Turkey ?
