Gunners go head-to-head with United in €27m World Cup winning defender battle

Arsenal and Manchester United on alert after Sergio Ramos bust-up at Real Madrid

Arsenal and Manchester United are two of the leading contenders in the emerging race to sign Sergio Ramos.

The Spanish international defender has reportedly been involved in a bust-up with Cristiano Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu, opening the door to a potential January move. Barclays Premier League outfits are thought to lead the chase for the player, with Arsenal and Manchester United both thought to be keen.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is in the market for a defender after a crisis in that position ensued at the Emirates. Injuries to Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastian Squilaci have led to Arsenal being linked with a number of centre backs.

Per Mertesacker, Chris Samba and Gary Cahill are all thought to be options for the Arsenal chief, although Ramos would provide the north London outfit with experience, quality and a winning pedigree developed in Spain.

Manchester United have previously been linked with the player, and Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of the man who signed for Real Madrid for €27 million from Sevilla back in 2005.

A versatile player who can also play in the full-back positions, Ramos could potentially replace Patrice Evra, who is being linked with a Manchester United exit in the summer and is tipped to join Madrid.

Football journalist Julien Laurens originally broke the story on Twitter, with website Sport.co.uk reporting the story.

“I've been told that Sergio Ramos could leave #RealMadrid. He would be perfect at #arsenal. World class player who'll bring winning mentality,” Laurens tweeted.

The Gunners could undoubtedly use the player's talents, given the current situation at the club, although it's unclear as to whether or not the frugal Arsenal boss would meet the high valuation.

Whilst money has also been tight in recent seasons at Manchester United, the Old Trafford outfit have spent big money on big name defenders in the past, and could act should the player's availability become clearer.

So from this one guys OPINION On Twitter that Horseboy would fit Arsenal's defensive measures. They've got it in their heads that us, alongside ManUre, are "Leading the race" for his signature? LOL

"Undoubtedly use his talents"

What for? Increasing our pansy image, because he isn't a very good defender.

He's their vice captain and one of the presidents favourites. No chance hes getting pushed out

If he did leave, don't want him here. Sagna is better, Ramos cant defend

Continental fullbacks mate. Great going forward, painfully average in defense. He's not fit to lace Sagna's boots!

I'll say it here everyone, really big so everyone can see.

Sagna is the best right back IN THE WORLD!!! This isn't opinion! It's a fact of life! If your opinion differs, you suck ballz! (this is also fact)
