Still a good player. Plays shit under Mourinho like every other M Utd player right now. I'd definitely take him on a free.

If it meant that we finally put Iwobi's worthless ass on the bench then yes please.

ESPN
Mata to leave United for Arsenal

Jose Mourinho chased Juan Mata out of Chelsea in 2014, and their relationship has only marginally improved since The Special One followed his former charge to Manchester United. So, with the 30-year-old out of contract in the summer, he's set to return to a trusted former manager.

TalkSport reports that Mata will join Arsenal on a free transfer this summer, where he will reunite with manager Unai Emery, whom he worked under for three seasons at Valencia. It was at the Mestalla that Mata first broke into the Spain team, and parlayed his fine form into a move to West London.

And now it seems he's set to return to the English capital, this time swapping West London for North.

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan underperforming since his own move from Old Trafford to Arsenal, Emery could be on the lookout for a new midfield maestro, and a reunion with Mata could be just what he needs.

How credible is this on a scale from Pablo to Ornstein?

With Ramsey leaving and Mkhi struggling to settle at Arsenal, thoughts about the notion of taking Mata on a free?

Considering it's coming from Durham probably even worse than Pablo.

He has no reputation to maintain so there is nothing that stops him from spewing nonsense and get paid for it.

That aside, he did sound adamant so who knows.

Still a quality player and like Ozil, his talent was probably the least dependent on his speed.

Could be a experienced influence for Guendouzi and Torreira esp since Ramsey is gone, and in all honesty, Mikhytaryan should too

If we're serious about this, we have to look back at Mata's two seasons at Chelsea where the man was phenomenal.

Jose came and pushed him and aside, and since then, he has had to make do with Moyes, van Gaal, and Jose. None of these managers played to his strength.

If it's a free transfer, I'm game. Mata won't demand astronomical wages. He's a terrific player and technically as good as it gets. His game doesn't rely on pace or physicality, so age won't be a significant factor.

With Ramsey leaving and Mkhi's future uncertain, we'd need someone to fill in for them. We need a wide man desperately as that's the priority. We would also have a budget of only £100m next summer, apparently, and that's if we make it into the UCL.

This signing makes sense.

- Proven player who can play on the flanks or as a CAM;
- Technically fantastic;
- Wages won't be an issue;
- Fits our style;
- Won't cost a thing.

A winger, Mata, a top class CB, and a back up CM—as Elneny doesn't seem to feature in Emery's plans—would make a good window next summer.

10 years too late

rather get Fabregas if we're going for a freebie in the middle.

Pretty much echoes what I was thinking.

Still has legs unlike Fàbregas who runs like he has a serious case of arthritis.

Terrific direct free kick taker as well, which is something our squad lacks. (Xhaka and Özil are decent but Mata is in another league)

we need a fast direct winger imo, mata wouldnt solve our key issue whatsoever bar being a better back up at 10 than micki

Özil can't play 60 games per season hence Mata would be a good alt.

If Mkhi hasn't still hasn't settled before the end of the season we should consider trying to cash in on him and get Mata on a free.

Just not sure which club are willing to match his current salary, unless he wants to leave as well and take a pay cut.

We could use the additional Mkhi cash to bring in a wide player.

2 upgrades for the price of 1.

Don’t need him and he’d surely want big wages if coming on a free - which can’t see us doing if we’re offlianing Ramsey for similar reasons.

Our priorities in the summer should be a top winger, CB and left back

↑ Except, Mata would not obstruct our chances of signing a winger, especially if we sell Mkhi who earns £60,000/week more than Mata.
