Arsenal close to making a bid for Palermo youngster

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is preparing a bid to bring Palermo defender Simon Kjaer to The Emirates next season. Wenger has made a defender and goalkeeper a priority for next season and with news that Sol Campbell will sign a one year extension this leaves the way open for Wenger to bring in a youngster knowing that he has enough experience to fall back on in times of trouble.

Kjaer is only 21 years old and a partnership with 24 year old Thomas Vermaelen at the back would have seen a very young defensive back line take shape and would have lead to some questioning if Wenger was doing the right thing have such a young players, however as stated above with Campbell extending and Gallas also likely to extend then there would be enough experience on the bench and on the training field to negate any issues inexperience would bring.

One has to remember Wenger’s comments on maturity and inexperience when he goes for youngsters but maintaining a very experienced group of players as both back up and mentors could be the way that Wenger intends to go.

No fee has been mentioned for Kjaer but it is though he would not come too cheap.

Bumped.
Another thats resurfaced.

Whether or not Eboue leaves, Wenger still has several gaps that need to be filled in his Arsenal side, most notably in defence. Surprisingly it is to Italy and Serie A that he is looking, specifically the Palermo pair, Simon Kjaer and Edinson Cavani.

Danish international Kjaer could well be the like-for-like replacement for William Gallas that Arsenal fans are hoping for, while Cavani is an explosive Uruguayan striker who would add something different to the already extensive roster of Arsenal's forward line.

Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in Palermo pair Simon Kjaer and Edinson Cavani as Arsene Wenger looks to add more options to his under performing Emirates squad.

The north London side are apparently looking for new defensive options and have been linked with a move for Danish international Simon Kjaer and the Gunners boss is apparently an admirer of Uruguayan international striker Cavani who may have only signed a new deal in April but could well be swayed by interest from the Premier League outfit.

Whilst neither player is exactly a big name they are just the types of players that Wenger is known for turning into household names. The Gunners have signed Marouane Chamakh this summer but look set for further additions as they look to make use of promised funds to help end a five season long silverware drought.

Kjaer has been targeted by Liverpool and has made noises about looking to further his career progression after an excellent couple of seasons at the Sicilian club.
