The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that Cahill is just what we need.

He's going to a top Champions League club who are willing to pay twice as much for him as we are.

He's going to the spuds.

We are still on the market for another defensive player according to Wenger.
I think that defender will be Gary Cahill. Perhaps having to pay what we did for Laurent Kopyandpaste, the £15m quoted for Cahill will seem like decent value. Hope I'm right.

This past season, Vermaelen and Gallas were both out injured at the same time. That left us with Sol and Silvestre, as Djourou was injured. Now that we have Djourou back, we are better off having him as backup compared to Tweety, but if Sol leaves, we HAVE to buy a new cb. Cahill would be ideal. He can challenge for the first team, make everyone competing for that spot better, and would not be a severe drop in quality for us when we need a cb from the bench.

Arsenal favourites to land Bolton stopper
Author: Nigel Brown
Posted on:26 July 2010 - 13:38

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been tipped to sign Bolton Wanderers centre half Gary Cahill moving ahead of Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Aston Villa in the race to sign the talented stopper.

Cahill has been a revelation since moving to the Reebok Stadium from Villa Park gaining a call-up to Fabio Capello’s England squad and attracting interest from England’s top Premier League clubs.

Arsenal have been cut by sports bookmakers as the favourites to land the 24-year-old, with Wenger eager to sign another central defender with veteran Gunner Sol Campbell undecided on his future.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle claimed in May that he would not stand in Cahill’s way if Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa or Manchester United registered their alleged interest in the talented Bolton Wanderers star, but suggested the likes of Arsene Wenger, Roberto Mancini, Carlo Ancelotti and Sir Alex Ferguson would have to cough up near to £30 million.

The Reebok Stadium stalwart has endured a superb spell at Bolton since joining the club from Aston Villa in January 2008, and has established himself in the England reckoning for Fabio Capello’s side despite missing out on the World Cup through injury.

Although he remains uncapped at senior level, Cahill’s form has alerted the Premier League top clubs and in particular Arsene Wenger has been perpetually linked with the player as the Frenchman looks to adds another centre-half to his squad after capturing FC Lorient’s Laurent Koscielny.

Arsenal favourites to sign a player that's valued at 30m?

Yeah, great piece of journalism that.
