Ander Herrera

Arsenal hope to cash in on the debt crisis at Real Zaragoza with a cut-price move for Spanish Under-21 midfielder Ander Herrera, who has drawn comparisons with current Gunners star Cesc Fabregas.

Manager Arsene Wenger and his assistant Pat Rice have watched Herrera twice this year at Real's La Romareda and according to reports in Spain, they have made a €10 million offer for the player.

The 20-year-old's buy-out clause is valued at £20 million. However club insiders concede that is highly unlikely to be recuperated with Agapito Iglesias, the Zaragoza president, under pressure to sell players after the extraordinary revelation that the club are saddled by an £80 million debt.

Gunning for glory: Spanish media claim Real Zaragoza's midfielder Ander Herrera (right) is subject of bid from Arsenal

The Basque-born Herrera made his Primera Liga debut last August and has been a regular for Real making 22 appearances and scoring once this term as the side battle against relegation.

He has represented Spain at youth level and is renowned for his vision and creativity.

Spanish media claims the player's representatives have already held discussions in London with Gunners' Executive Director Ivan Gazidis in the hope of thrashing out a deal before the World Cup this summer.
AS speculates that should Arsenal conclude a deal for Herrera, it will signal the exit of captain Fabregas to either Barcelona or Real Madrid with Herrera his ready-made replacement.

I'd like to see one player that is a ready-made replacement for Fabregas...

I contend there isn't one player on this planet that is a ready-made replacement. Let alone an under-21 that doesn't even play in the EPL...

Looks like there are legs in this story, their club president has confirmed bids have been made and his agents have met with Arsenal representatives.

I dont see him coming in to replace Cesc tho, we all know Wenger has an obesssion with collecting AMs

The 20-year-old is rumoured to have been a target last year for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is of the view the playmaker can be a long-term replacement for Cesc Fabregas.

And after Zaragoza president Agapito Iglesias confirmed talks are underway between the two clubs, Herrera has been quoted in the Spanish press as saying it would be 'a dream' to join the Gunners.

'It is a compliment that a great club is interested in me,' he told AS.

'But right now Zaragoza is my priority - nothing and no one will divert my attention at this time.

'My goal now is to help save Zaragoza from relegation. If something happens after that we shall see, but I do not want to know now.'

Iglesias confirmed talks between his club and Arsenal, as well as the player's agent Arturo Canale, but said the Londoners' opening bid of £9 million was not enough.

'The interest in Herrera is true, but if Arsenal want the kid they must pay his true value in the transfer market,' he is quoted as saying in the Sun.

yea, but him coming wont mean the departure of cesc.

Maybe after 4 years of him playing, getting into 1st team, and then nudging out cesc.

But thats never gonna happen.
Spanish media, just want cesc back.
in wenger we trust

If you follow Arsenal you might want to tune in to Athletic Bilbao vs Valladolid (just kicked off) 1/2

he's very good. Extremely intelligent and classy ball playing midfielder who can dictate the game. with arteta gone, it makes sense. But I doubt we would pay what they want
