Yeah but he wasn't exactly on anyone's radar though.

Signed for 33 million, seems a lot of money for a player of his profile.

It's certainly a lot of money for a player who had yet to establish himself in Lille's starting XI. From what I've seen of Onana, he's not going to get beaten for pace by many CMs, but he still has some work to do when it comes to technical security and ball progression. As it stands, in terms of profile, Onana is more a Kouyaté than a Yaya.

Interestingly enough, allegedly, West Ham matched Everton's bid, which does suggest that scouts in England rate him highly. Having said that, Premier Clubs are filthy rich compared to the rest of the continent. It's come to a point where £30m means less to Everton and West Ham than it does to clubs like Barcelona or Inter.

They're splashing the Richarlison cash, but yeah, expensive buy at a time when Everton may be facing another relegation battle.

Yes English clubs seem flush with money, Onana is just 20 and very few 20 year olds are ready to make a big impact, there are exceptions of course like Vieira (the first one) but generally they need developing and Everton I would think need ready made players rather than players for the future.

Can't help but think we could have sold them AMN for a fraction of what they paid for Onana

REPORT: ARSENAL COULD NOW SIGN ‘SENSATIONAL’ EVERTON STAR AMADOU ONANA IN JANUARY
Tony | 24 January 2023 | Arsenal, Arsenal News, Transfers | No Comments
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in the January transfer window.

That’s according to football journalist Sacha Tavolieri who claims that the 21-year-old’s exit from Everton this month was previously unthinkable, but now after Frank Lampard’s sacking, Arsenal are ready to pounce.

Everton signed Onana from French club Lille in the summer transfer window for around £33 million (BBC).

However, given the Toffees current situation in the Premier League table, coupled with their financial plight, the Belgium international’s stay at Goodison Park seemingly could be short-lived…......

Coming in fast and thick now, good job we saved some money.
