Naldo

Heard any rumours? This is the place to discuss potential transfer targets.

Naldo

Damo will like this.

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf has tipped centreback Naldo (full name Ronaldo Aparecido Rodrigues) to join Premier League big boys Arsenal. The 26-year-old Brazilian international moved to the Bundesliga in 2005 having made his initial steps as a professional with Juventude but has since gone on to earn the nickname 'the beast' for his imposing 6ft 5inch frame.

Known for his cannon-ball free-kicks and solidity at the back interest has risen across Europe following his role in the German side’s impressive run to the UEFA Cup final. Naldo even got on the scoresheet in the showpiece final but couldn’t prevent Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk taking the title.

Speaking to a club insider, coach Schaaf tipped Naldo to reach the top:

"Naldo is a great athlete and could do well at the right club, unfortunately he doesn't fit the direction we're planning to move in any longer.

"We expect to move him for somewhere in the region of €10 million, and English side Arsenal is as of now the most likely destination."

Arsenal have already signed Belgian international Thomas Vermaelen as they look to boost their defensive options, but with clouds hanging over the future of Kolo Toure, William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre and Philippe Senderos it appears Arsene Wenger could once again dip into the market for a centre-half.

Not sure this means anything but the quotes are there, probably all a load of bollocks but a rumours a rumour...

What does everyone think of him, I like watching Bremen play so I've seen him on a few occasions, he still looked kind of raw, but appears to have potential.

seems likely and he is 6ft 5, for all those calling out for a tall defender

Gallas will be with us for 1 or 2 more seasons and Toure probably has a couple more years, Djourou, Vermaelen and Naldo will be their back ups and replacements.

Cana will most likely join us as he is decent and for sale, so I'm sure Wenger will swoop him up

i've seen naldo play quite often... werder bremen is a team i like to watch in the bundesliga, mostly because of diego, ozil and naldo... sad that diego's moved on...

anyway...naldo is a great aerial player... yes, he's a bit raw and does make the occasional error in front of goal but he's got a chance to step up his game a bit when he plays with arsenal (providing the report is true)
i like him...i never thought that brazilian defenders were worth much, other than lucio... but naldo seems to be a good choice... i wonder why dunga didnt pick him for the recent squad in the confed cup tho...

He would be a very good signing, and one which would be typical of Wenger, aside from the price-tag of course.

He is one of those rough diamonds at this point, he still needs to refine his game, but he is certainly a great prospect.

And yes, for all of those expressing the need to acquire a tall defender, he is certainly a good option in that respect. (6 ft 6 in, or 198cm, depending on where you come from).

The guy is rightly called the beast and is good eith the head

again nobody knows the Gallas or Toure situation but if you as me the former is most likely to leave. Then Kolo would have the likes of Vermaelen and Naldo topartner him.

Sounds nice, ill take it!

The more skilled players on and off the pitch are an asset to the club.
