With Benzema in the mix now, it could either be a cake-walk or could harm team chemistry. Unlike at Real, presently, Benzema won't be France's best player. He will bring along the baggage though. France already has Pogba, Griezmann, and Mbappe. Giroud complemented them at the World Cup.

While Benzema does have the experience of being a side-piece to Ronaldo, he hasn't played for France in a long time. Furthermore, his record for France wasn't that good to begin with.

It's an unnecessary risk. Would still be a great option off the bench though.

Goes to show that team selection for France is pure politics. Benzema was wiping the floor with Giroud in 2016 and 2018 too.

Benzema had to carry a big team like RM for the whole year to get back in. Giroud OTOH didn't even have a shot on target in the WC and yet has always been first choice until now.
