Article summary:

"Summer 2014 was the last time that Barca’s first XI was seriously strengthened. In that window €165 million was spent and top-quality arrivals Luis Suarez, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ivan Rakitic settled in quickly, and improved key areas of the team.

Since then Barca have spent more than €800 million on new players, without even one of them establishing themselves as a senior team leader. The current team’s key figures were all already at the club when they won that treble in 2015 but that outfield spine of Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Lionel Messi and Suarez are all into their 30s now.

In summer 2016 they spent €125 million on Andre Gomes, Paco Alcacer, Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne, Jasper Cillessen and Denis Suarez.

Twelve months later Neymar pushed through his exit to Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million. Barca’s spend following that was €375 million on Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, Paulinho, Nelson Semedo, Yerry Mina, Gerard Deulofeu and Marlon.

The 2018-19 season involved €129 million being spent on new players — including Malcom, Clement Lenglet, Arthur, Arturo Vidal and Jeison Murillo (on loan with an option to buy).

This season there has been €273 million invested — on Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie de Jong, Martin Braithwaite, Neto, Junior Firpo, Emerson and Marc Cucurella.

So much money has been spent, but not even one of these 30+ new signings has been a complete success. It all points to deep structural problems at the club, and continuing mismanagement by the current board."

Doesn't reflect good upon Raúl who, in his role as DoF, oversaw Barcelona's transfer activity until 2018.

Jesus wept. Says everything you need to know about Raul and his transfer approach.

Barca 2-2 Atletico

Penalties galore as 3 of the 4 goals are penalties. One had to be retaken.

And that's how it finishes.

Real a point ahead with a game in hand.

Lel.

He's awful. Bartomeu is intent on ruining Barca right now.

Somehow Barca sacked Valverde a season too late, yet ended up hiring someone even worse.

I'll miss Setien. Thought he was doing excellent work at Barcelona.

Guess now I'll hope for an Unai Emery masterclass.

Think Real deserve the title and shows Zidane is the true master yet again. Incoming Liga/CL double.

4 point lead with 5 games to go. Madrid still has Bilbao and Villarreal. Hoping the title is decided by the Villarreal game; would be nice for Villarreal to take points from Barcelona on Sunday and for Espanyol to give them the middle finger before going down.

In other news, Messi is forcing Barca's board's hands by saying he's leaving after next season. Think it's a ploy to get the board to call for elections, but I hope Barto prevails.

Also, Xavi is set to take over for Setien starting next season. If his stint in Qatar is anything to go by, I think I'll enjoy him being their head coach.

Rumored Messi is tiring of his time at Barca

Good time to offer something the major English clubs can not, Messi has always had his talent questioned because of the class of players beside him at Barca, Time to offer a possition at Arsenal along with Auba and current youngsters, what a chance to stage his talents in a written off side and club in supposed turmoil.get Ozil off the books use that money to bring him in sure he will be earning less but make it about having the opportunity to prove himself in the best league in the world with a side who most would not rate ?
Nice dream but you never know if you dont ask.

Because his team have blown it again so of course he’s ‘tiring’ and throwing his toys out of the pram. Surprised he hasn’t announced his retirement yet.

Lionel Messi joins Thierry Henry as the only players to register 20 goals and 20 assists in a single league campaign.

goes to show.. a single exceptional talent is not equivalent to an exceptional team
