Sunday's performance was disappointing and depressing and a big set back for us.
But I must say, the officiating was awfully poor and the rough tactics adopted by Everton was shameful. Both Lacazette and Ozil came to rash and unnecessary rough treatment, and referee should've shown at least a couple of yellows to their midfielder Gomes and the CB ( loaned from Chelsea). Instead Gouandonzi and Sokratis we're quickly booked for small offenses , hence minimizing their effectiveness.
Also, Gouandonzi, should be sparingly used in big games, due to his inexperience. He has racked up 10 yellow cards and and a red, which shows his inability to handle tricky situations. He is a great prospect, but at 19/20 , shouldn't be thrown into the deep end.

I thought Sokratis was going to end up with a red. Sometimes he's just too physical in the obvious way. Pulling and grabbing when he doesn't fancy a race. That's what earned hin a red against Rennes because it looks like he's in trouble when up against pace.

He had little cover from the flanks, since our full backs failed to contain both Calvert-Lewin and Recharlison. So he was constantly harassed and hurried. So was Mustafi.
Also, the early yellow cards to Gouandonzi and himself didn't help either.
I remember, in 2016, Koeman's Everton also pushed us around at Goodison park, similarly. Until that game, we were doing great, but, after that we lost our mojo and fell behind in the race.

True, but it's an example of how he copes with pressure. He has it in his locker to calm it down but there was still a moment after he was booked where another ref could have reached for a second yellow.

100 Millions and a new coach to finish exactly at the same position. No chance of winning anything ever !

There is a marked difference between the team and tactics Emery employs for home and away games. The manager f***ked up today, he got it badly wrong today. Yes he reacted fairly quickly but the damage was already done.

Explain the difference?

He started off with 4 at the back and ended up playing 3 at the back which is the formation we have looked better with recently.

What?

He started with 3 at the back then went to 4 at the back after half time.

That's not up for debate ......... that's just what it was.

Kola LWB, AMN RWB he then took Kola off at half time when he made the switch and bought on Mkhi and Auba while taking off Elneny.

Nonsense! From minute 1 of the second half we saw Mustafi out on the right, Sokratis in the middle and Monreal left, you saw it even moreso for our goal kicks when the 2 widest of the 3 positioned themselves at either side of the box to receive the ball from Leno.

In the first half the shape was a traditional 4 at the back with AMN and Monreal playing traditional full back roles with Mustafi and Sokratis in the middle.

............... and what about Kolasinac? was he in goal or something?

*sigh* the only thing that's nonsense is your refusal to accept the facts just because you got something wrong.

The 2nd half started out the same 3-4-3, we switched to 4-2-3-1 when the substitutes were made.

We subbed on two midfielders for one midfielder and a defender.

End of story.

I'm not deliberately being short with you its just what your doing is essentially telling me the Sky's not blue, as you can imagine I don't have time to argue that sh*t.

Its nonsense because it is. We didnt start the second half 3-4-3 then changed it because the substitutions were made at half time, so there was a formation change immediately the half started and I noticed the big space between Monreal, Sokratis and Mustafi immediately - hence why I said it. Perhaps the reason why it looked like 4 at the back in the first half was because I saw Monreal and AMN pegged right back by their players seemingly forever.

I have no problem admitting we played those formations you stated but nobody can tell me that it actually looked like we played 3 at the back in the first half. And the big gaps I saw in defence convinced me we were playing 3 at the back in the 2nd half.

It was the same formation as what we played against Newcastle. Same formation we played to smash Bournemouth.

When in possession, the 3 at the back often play wide a part with huge gaps and it's usually one of the CM's that drops deep to collect the ball to play it out in the first phase.

I think this site is right to call it a 3-4-2-1 because Mkhi and Ozil occupy more central positions and don't hug the byline.
