Just pick a captain in pre season. This is ridiculous

Hard to do when we dont have one clear choice.

Bellerin, Holding, PEA, Laca. Any of those I'd be fine with. Be ballsy and pick Guendouzi. There's enough choices, just pick one.

Away from home, we have some serious mental issues. That will be compounded with captain calamity in the middle. It's like doing a theatrical performance. Only the main actor is the lousiest of the lot, thereby, dragging down the entire performance.

But I don't have much hope. Xhaka is pretty much the first name on the teamsheet atm.

But he doesn't HAVE to be!

Emery got his Reinforcements in the Summer Window
&
The youth have Stepped up to capably fill & replace EVEN improve on, the boots of Ozil, Iwobi & Granit Xhaka.

With Holding closest to returning full 100 there's even more reason for Xhaka to take the bench, as the weakest & slowest link in our Team.

Which Emery chooses so far to put in 433 CENTER of our best possible formation...which I agree will lead to disaster.

so he'll be Negative & go with a 4231, put someone next to Xhaka & when they go foward to actually tackle, win back the ball or try to score,

Everyone will blame THAT DM for being out of position when the striker jogs straight past Xhaka in a straight line from center circle to penalty box.
[Grealish...]

So yeah I'm hoping Emery doesn't make Xhaka Captain & hoping that he Bench's him to be used as a spare part. [ Like he's done with Ozil&Musti ]

But.... :BangHead:

Luiz and Xhaka, our two leaders he speaks about, are the two most guilty of giving up goals this season because of their errors.

In the Man Utd match thread, you suggested the below team and I bet if we play that line up more often we see a major difference in how much control we have in the middle of the park. Against Burnley we played a similar midfield but had Willock instead of Torreira. We had 67% of possession and that's the most we've this season. We were still too open off the ball because Burnley had far too many shots, but I believe that comes back to not playing a DM and the spacing/distance issue we have. On far too many occasions, our midfield is either too high up the pitch or too deep in their own box so we're poorly positioned for transitions on both attack and defence. Attackers shouldn't be one on with our defenders so often and easily.

vs Burnley they exploited that lineup because we really didn't have a proper DM to help out which is why they had so many shots from countering and also sitting deep.

I have no idea why Emery trusts Xhaka to be the furthest man back in midfield when he can't press, tackle or track a runner. I also have little sympathy for Emery because despite the constant tinkering with the formation and certain players in the line up, he kept playing Xhaka. He kept Elneny benched. He had Ramsey benched for a period. Iwobi was never tried through the middle. Mkhitryan kept on being shifted from a central position to a wide position....we had options that were never explored.

Leno

Chambers - Sokratis - Luiz - Kolasinac

Torreria

Pepe - Guendouzi - Ceballos - Saka

Aubameyang

Well you said it yourself, its just going to take time, I really don't know what happened to Miki btw, really seemed as if he lost all confidence as a player. Iwobi was unfortunate in that he never got a proper chance as an AM because we had no wingers at all and he was forced to play down the wing.

Emery has had enough time to understand that players like Xhaka and Kolasinac are brainless, yet he has persisted - hence he has to go.
