Why are English Footballers less professional?

As it says in the title, why are English footballers so unprofessional?

The latest case with Rooney is just one in a long line of English footballers taking no care of their fitness. At our own club, you've seen English footballers settle for just taking in wages, instead of caring about game time and their own development. You don't see this often in other top European countries (Not going to start talking about African or South American countries, the levels of professionalism expected are poles apart)

So why is it like this? They have more pressure on them, the media's keeping a close eye on them, and you'd expect this to mean that they'd be more professional.

Thoughts?

Remove the FA's domestic player quota and players will stop f***ing about so much. Foreign players are more disciplined because their visa status, employability and salary depend on their being professional at all times.

English players barring Kane, Alli, Scholes at his peak, could all be replaced by better and likely cheaper overseas players if the quota didn't exist.

Just another benefit of free markets and competition.
