Technology in the FIFA Club World Cup 2016

Postby ricardouc13 » Wed Dec 14, 2016 7:58 pm

Today, for the first time in the football history, the referee used a video to award a penalty kick.

This happenned in the semi-final of the FIFA club world club, between Atlético Nacional v/s Kashima.

What is your opinion about the use of technology to award faults in the pitch?

I'm all for it and think it's long overdue. Doesn't detract from the game for me as long as it's limited to penalty decisions. Didn't seem like too long a stoppage and it'll hopefully disincentivise people from diving in the box.

Im all for retrospective bans for players who got away with stuff during the match but I don't support this.

I don't like it either. Not many realize that even if on video there are times when it's still a tough decision to make and they don't always seem to get it right. The camera doesn't catch everything either. Just watch an NFL game, they still get calls wrong even after watching video. Human error is just part of sports, and life in general.

True but:
1) it should reduce the number of errors simply due to the time available to the ref
2) it takes less time than a Chav rolling around to delay the game.

I just don't think it's worth slowing the game down for. It really just adds to my frustration.

It should only be a matter of time before this becomes the norm. There are decisions that aren't always clear, but I'd rather the referee have the ability to watch the replays we get to see in order to make the most informed decision possible - that way "I didn't see it" no longer becomes an excuse. It also totally rules out grave miscarriages of justice such that come from clear dives and red card decisions being incorrectly given.
