Awful

More matches = more money for Fifa

Simple as that

Terrible idea but at the same time it means that South Africa will more than likely qualify for most world cups.

So not all bad

If you're good enough to play at the world cup then you're good enough to qualify for it as it stands.

Its supposed to be an elite competition, not a school sports day where everyone gets a sticker for taking part.

You say that but if England wasn't in the world cup you'd be saying bollocks to international football even more. This isn't a good decision for the tournament but for billions of people in the world (literally, I'd China and India both end up qualifying) this means we get to enjoy the WC even more since our countries get to play. Watching south Africa in 2010 was amazing and even though it won't be the same without us being hosts getting to watch your team play makes it 10x more enjoyable and memorable

Fifa intent on watering down an already declining standard of international football.

I assure you, if England didn't qualify I wouldn't give a monkey's.

The integrity of the competition has been compromised, once again, for money. And please let's not be naive and make believe it's because FIFA want to give people a chance to see their team in a world cup yadayayada

It's just so they can make more money

In any case, to presume that a Chinese guy is going to feel all warm and fuzzy about China getting to a world cup, only after the rules were changed to make it easier, is patronising to put it mildly. Chinese fans might just as likely be acutely embarrassed by such a scenario.

According to Fifa's own research, revenue is predicted to increase to £5.29bn for a 48-team tournament, giving a potential profit rise of £521m.

Wtf is this three team group abomination? I get that it's easier to advance to the knockout rounds, but it's stupid and only serves to dilute the already diminishing product quality while expanding the coffers of the FIFA brass.

They'll still find some way to screw qualification up, they're Scotland. :sneaky: I love the fact that they essentially admitted they're a small nation in football terms.

Have to appease the Nigerians who promised via email to put £50,000,000 in their bank accounts and the Chinese who will give them lots of Yuan on behalf of the people!

So either Germany or Turkey to host Euro 2024.

I thought the reason that we have this globetrotting Euro 2020 was because they didn't want to give it to Turkey? So to prevent taking the Euros to Asia, germany gets it's second international tournament in 18 years? That plus England's deal with the devil for us to support them in exchange for us getting it in 2028.
