Meanwhile in the Croatian leauge...

Postby Zenith » Sun Sep 11, 2016 10:32 am

After winning 90 and drawing 13 of their previous home league matches, the Croatian champions were left stunned by a weekend defeat

Dinamo Zagreb’s incredible sequence of 103 league matches without defeat at their Stadion Maksimir home was ended on Saturday as they went down 1-0 against Osijek.

Josip Knezevic got the only goal of the game after a couple of minutes to secure the win for the visitors, who pulled level with the Zagreb club in the league.

The last time Dinamo, who are the defending Croatian champions, suffered a league loss at the Stadion Maksimir was in July 2010, when they suffered a 2-1 reverse against Rijeka in the second week of the championship.

Previously, they had won 90 and drawn just 13 of their league matches at home in what was one of European football's most staggering records.

Dinamo captain Domagoj Antolic apologised to fans after the game, insisting they will be in better shape when they take on Lyon in the Champions League in midweek.

"We're all sorry about the defeat to Osijek, who played a good game," he said, as quoted by Jutarnji List. "We didn't expect this defeat, especially at this stage of the season.

"Now we turn first to Lyon and the Champions League, and then the other matches ahead of us this month. We need to move on, clear our heads of unpleasant results and prepare ourselves better for whatever awaits us.

"We're sorry not to continue this positive streak but, starting tomorrow, we will try to be better prepared, physically and mentally, for Lyon in France."

Dinamo visit Lyon on Wednesday, kicking off a group qhich also contains Sevilla and Juventus, with the latter visiting Zagreb on September 27

10 league titles in a row... has to be the one-team top division in Europe surely?
