This is where the World Cup will be held. Is it safe for females to even visit?

Broke the law

What are FIFA going to do about it anyway?

Probably nothing, unless strong and concrete evidence of corruption surfaces.

Qatar says its cost will be at least £23bn ($35bn). If a World Cup was removed from a host country which then successfully appealed and won compensation, Fifa could well be bankrupted.

They could simply move the next round of voting for the following world cups to recoup the cost.

People need to realize where they are actually going, because it isnt the west. Dont put yourself in a situation where you could end up breaking one of their laws. I would assume that happened with her doesn't happen often, but why take the risk?

It isn't the ideal place to have the world cup but do their laws actually prevent people from watching football or players from playing it? Dont think theres a case to take it away from them.

Let's see
Gay supporters can't go to see the World Cup
Women need to be careful they don't get raped or they'll have a case against them for being raped, so maybe it's best they don't go too.

Gay people can still watch football, nobody is going to know youre gay unless you come out and say it

Women can get raped in any country. They arrested her for adultery, but its standard practice because of the law. They are investigating the case there and she hasnt been charged yet. If he did rape her, then she will be let off and if he didnt, then its her fault for consenting and doing that act. She shouldve known better.

But that's the point though, isn't it? It's against basic human rights. Sure, it's their laws, but either you hold this in a place where basic human rights are respected or you tell them to do so for that period.

Btw, a gay couple taking a double room would be a dead giveaway they're gay.

The whole world doesnt have the same basic human rights Im afraid. She is being detained because shes a potential criminal, simple as. So has the other guy. Any country would detain a suspect for a period of time, depending on laws.

As for the double room, again, thats dead giveaway, not fact, but still its not neccessary to watch football. Rent single beds if youre worried.

This.

Gays being uncomfortable is not a reason to ban it from Qatar.

It's scandalous that gay people should have to hide the fact that they're gay though, as if that's something to be ashamed of. I understand that they shouldn't be out in public being overly affectionate (but that is a rule that applies to heterosexual couples too) but it's disgraceful that homosexual people would have to lie about their sexuality in order to feel safe at a football tournament,

A homosexual act is punishable for up to 7 years in Qatar.

Its a maximum death penalty for a Muslim.

Long story short, if you don't feel the need to cover your true self up or have an issue with lying about who you really are, don't go to Qatar.

Its true, everybody should be able to watch the world cup in a place where they can also reside comfortably for the duration of it. I think it will have to boil down to you either go and risk it, or you dont, which is a shame.

football as the most influential sport in the world should be showing a level of decency and respect of basic human rights

instead fifa are giving world cups to the most backward nations in the globe

A significant proportion if the world's population being under threat of imprisonment or death by simply being is enough of a reason.

I'm more astounded gays think they are important enough for a whole country to change their laws just for them.

We already know gays are vain and think highly of their self importance with all this coming out shit. No one cares if you come out. But wanting a World Cup to not be hosted in a certain country cos of it? Lol

Plenty of other reasons not to host it in Qatar. Gays are hardly one of them.
