Top 50 Players of the Last 15 Years

Postby Callum » Mon Jan 19, 2015 1:17 pm

After mulling it over I've decided to make this competition for the last 15 years as opposed to the past 25. I know a lot of you wanted me to include 1990's players but I think given that a lot of users on here are teenagers/ in their early twenties I thought it'd be best to reduce the timeframe as many of us will not have seen the very best players during that decade. Results will inevitably skewer towards those who have played more recently as many of us will never have seen the likes of van Basten, Laudrup, Baggio and Romario play during their pomp.

I've also decide to allow each voter to nominate 25 names each which should hopefully give us an eventual top 50 once everyone has submitted their votes. If you want to vote, please read the following rules before submitting;

- PM me your votes, do not post them in here. Feel free to discuss players but no full lists please.
- Please take some time before submitting your lists so you don't miss anyone out.
- Only consider performances between the year 2000 and the present day.
- Make sure you submit your 25 in rank order from 1-25.

Be sure to check out YouTube and Google etc. to jog your memory about certain players.

If you have any questions feel free to ask in here.

Good thread but would have preferred the last 25 years, but understand I would be in the minority.

Can see it becoming a Messi v Ronaldo........aaaaargh !

Will get my thinking cap on.

It's really bloody hard. Got my 25 (I think) but I'm still chopping and changing.

With only 3 lists submitted so far we're still left with 44 names mentioned so far. Really tough to call this one. So many good players have to be excluded.

Sent you ...something.
Hardest thing was to decide whether to include players, who haven't been around for too long, but show huge potential (f.e. Neymar, Bale).
The youngest player in my list is 27 and everybody knows who I mean. It's always easier to list players, who already have achieved something and can be rated based on this.

That was hard I had my 25 done then I read over it and had to get Raul in their - but who to kick out - phew done now.

I went with 3 GK / 6 DF / 10 MF/Wingers / 6 Forwards

I have 15 primarly or soley played in the Premier League / 4 from Serie A / 6 from La Liga.

The P/L is my footballing knowledge bread and butter so I'm not surprised my list is top heavy with P/L playes; which means a lot of quality players from La Liga & Italy have missed out due to my poor memory.

Going to upset the German Gooners but just realised I haven't got one German in there - wow I really prob rushed it in truth but didnt want to pick any players only around the last couple of seasons when the Germans have really come to fore front in terms of technical excellance and dominance of the top teams around Europe.

Dubs you've got to put them in ranked order from 1-25. Your number one pick gets 25 points, number two gets 24 and so on.

For everyone who's struggling to remember some names, here's a decent list that jogged my memory a bit;

I'm not butthurt, but if you have 3 GK and none of them is German you have missed a very important one imho (not neuer) :D

I almost included Cech but he didn't quite make it.
