Better to have gotten rid than to have kept him on the payroll. At this stage, wages are more important to clear than transfer fees imo. We need to make space for some ballers.

Where are those ballers because the window is quickly closing and now we need a CB.

They're all over the place if the money is right. And if there's one thing we have, it's money.

where is the logic in this ? our back-ups are now Mertesacker, Holding & Chambers ffs.

if we were serious, we'd sign a starting CB, even though we have decent starting options, as Spurs have done with their signing of Sanchez. but I bet we don't even sign a back-up.

Holding isnt a back-up, he is a starter.

In that case our need for a top CB is greater than I thought.

Mustafi - Koscielny - Monreal
(Chambers ) - (Mertesacker) - (Holding)

The only one of the 6 Gabriel maybe would have played ahead is, Chambers. And the most people here still judge him for his form 2-3 years ago. He matured a big time since then. He even was ahead of holding in the pecking order with the England u21 team in the summer. He was solid with them and Boro.

I don't see why we should panic. We needed to get rid of some average squad players and we did. Ideally we loan Chambers out, and we buy someone in Koscielnys level, but even if we didn't our defense isn't worse than before Gabriel imo.

Chambers is a liability and this coming from someone who had high hopes for him when we signed him.

It is not like our squad is overflowing with defenders that we needed to sell before we had to buy. If we do not sign a top replacement and by that i mean someone significantly better than Gabriel it is a d*ck move because defenders need time, more than other positions to settle in.
