Lionel Messi helps out young blind Arsenal fan by sending him life-changing pair of £4,200 OrCam glasses… as Barcelona superstar heads up campaign to aid visually-impaired children

• Barcelona star Lionel Messi has linked up with Israel-based OrCam Technologies
• The partnership aims to increase awareness about blind people’s challenges
• Every year he will gift the device to inspiring blind or visually impaired people
• And 10-year-old Mikey from London is the latest recipient of the £4,200 glasses

Lionel Messi has come to the aid of a young blind Arsenal fan after sending the child a life-changing pair of glasses produced by OrCam Technologies.

The Barcelona star has linked up with the Israel-based company to launch a partnership with them to increase awareness of the challenges faced by the blind and the visually impaired community globally.

Every year, Messi will gift the OrCam MyEye device to people with inspiring stories who are blind or visually impaired, some of whom he will personally meet in Barcelona.
These individuals will then consequently become members of the so-called ‘OrCam Dream Team,’ which is led by Messi.

And 10-year-old Mikey – a blind footballer from Enfield in London – was the latest recipient of the £4,200 OrCam glasses which his parents say have helped give him a new lease of independence.

Before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, Messi met 12 visually-impaired individuals in Barcelona to give them their devices and therefore become part of the ‘OrCam Dream Team’.

And the 33-year-old Argentina star admitted handing out the device was a particularly striking moment for him.

On the meeting, he said: ‘The emotion was incredible. Meeting with this amazing group of people from around the world was truly a magical and inspiring moment.

‘Witnessing each of the members of the ‘Dream Team’ trying out the OrCam MyEye features, it was clear that this would be a life-changing device for each of them.

‘I am proud to be an OrCam Ambassador to truly make a difference for so many.’

Approximately 300million people worldwide suffer from blindness or varying degrees of visual impairment.

Messi should simply move to PSG or City in the summer. 2-3 years there would be a welcome change for him. Barca are basically Arsenal maxed up atm.

Messi going straight to the MLS makes sense. He is basically a one-club man. It wouldn't be right to see a slowed-down version of him at PSG or City for a quick payday; he wouldn't revolutionize either of those teams. He also isn't the missing piece for those clubs to win the CL.

It would be like that time Raul left Real after 15 years and signed for Schalke.

So... Messi's exact salary has always been kept from the media, but when he's 5 months away from potentially walking out as a free agent, the press 'suddenly' get wind of all the details.

Classic Barcelona: as vindictive and disdainful as it gets. Even their greatest ever player isn't being treated with the respect he deserves.
