Re: Aneke joins Crewe Alexandra on loan

Steve Davis admits he is keen to sign Chuks Aneke on a permanent deal but knows Crewe will face competition should he become available.

Arsenal forward Aneke is spending his second season on loan at Gresty Road and has already found the net 10 times, including a brace in Saturday's 3-0 win over Sheffield United, to add to the eight he managed last term.

The 20-year-old sees his Gunners contract expire at the end of this season and, should fresh terms not be on offer at the Emirates Stadium, then he faces a decision over his future.

Davis told Crewe's official website: "Signing Chuks on a permanent basis is something I've thought about but it is maybe a bit early for him to decide what he is going to do in the summer.

"His agent was very keen for him to be here and everyone can see the improvement he has made when making that step up from Under-21 football.

"We won't be able to compete with a lot of clubs financially but Chuks has to fit into a style of football, if I was going to give him any advice it would be that the team he plays in is very important to him because of the style of player he is.

"I think we are one of very few clubs who could accommodate him at this level, and I have been very patient with him."

Don't think he'll be offered a new contract at Arsenal... good player but is going to struggle with our current midfield, add to that Zelalem, Crowley etc.

Isn't he a striker?

Afobe's the midfielder. Akpom and Aneke are strikers.... or at least I thought.

If he's a striker, there isn't much standing in his way.

The 3 lads that surname begins with A will not make it with Arsenal FC i am afraid. They will all do well enough at a lower level though.
I want Carl Jenkinson back in a Arsenal shirt next season.

Akpom is the only one who may make it IMO. Bit early for you to say a player just turned 18 and already in and about the first team as well as the leading reserve goalscorer for the last 2 seasons won't make it.

Still very rough. His physique is helping him a lot in that league. Needs to improve technically and tactically before he comes into the PL.

Contract expires this summer and rumour is he won't be extending.

He got talked about briefly today on goals on Sunday. It seems he has a lot of potential and the guys on fire. Hopefully he'll get a bit of pre season in the summer and some CC games with a prem loan move
